Oviedo, Apr 10 (EFE) The alleged perpetrators were beginning to be identified and five complaints were already being prepared.
This has been confirmed by the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, who has advanced that five complaints will be filed after identifying as many people as allegedly “guilty and responsible” for some of the fires and that, in addition, work is being done on other lines of investigation still in its initial phase that would affect another ten suspects.
“I only know the numbers, I don’t know any other information” about those suspected of setting fire to the mountain, Barbón stressed after warning that Asturias is experiencing an “attack” in which “there is clearly an intention to cause damage.”
After the day started with 41 fires, six of them of special difficulty, late in the afternoon 44 outbreaks were recorded in 23 municipalities, most of them being reviewed and small in size, and the extinction tasks were focused on in 12 distributed throughout Asturias, whose 78 councils today had an extreme or very high level of risk.
The largest media are concentrated on the Navedo fire, in the municipality of Illas, where a seaplane and a helicopter work with firefighters from the Emergency Service and two forestry companies, while in Valdés, the council most affected last week, they operate firefighters, forestry companies and two preventive work brigades.
Work is also underway to completely control the largest fire recorded over the weekend, located in the council of Las Regueras, near Oviedo, and in which two helicopters operate together with firefighters from the Emergency Service.
The drop in temperatures and the entry of air from the north loaded with high humidity has favored the control of some fires that throughout the weekend led the Principality to request the support of the Military Emergency Unit and Forest Brigades of Cantabria , Leon and Ourense.
The weather forecast for tomorrow points to light rainfall, falling temperatures and light winds, a day in which the risk of fires will be “very high” in 12 councils in the southwest of the community and “high” in another 42.
Four weeks after the start of the electoral campaign, opposition groups have questioned today the work of the regional government when it comes to managing the waves of forest fires that occur in Asturias -the previous ones were in 2017 and 2019-.
Thus, the PP has accused the Executive of Barbón of making “populism and demagoguery” and of not taking measures beyond a “deficient and null, based on extinction, but not on prevention” management, while the Forum has asked the Executive to make “self-criticism” and IU has demanded responsibilities for the absence of a forestry policy.
