Madrid, Apr 4 (EFE).- The Official State Gazette publishes this Tuesday the decrees calling for municipal and regional elections, as well as the assemblies of Ceuta and Melilla on May 28.
The decrees enter into force this Tuesday, 54 days before the elections, as established by the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime.
The electoral campaign, as usual, will last fifteen days: it will begin at midnight on Friday, May 12, 2023, and end at midnight on Friday, May 26, 2023.
On this occasion, regional elections will not be held in Andalusia, Catalonia, Galicia, the Basque Country and Castilla y León.
36 million voters are called to the polls
A total of 36,585,840 voters are called in Spain to elect their local representative in the elections on May 28, and 18,382,505 will also be able to vote for the leaders of their autonomous community, according to the electoral census of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In a statement, the INE disseminates the figures of the electoral census and also the number of voters residing abroad, who will be able to vote without prior request after Congress unanimously repealed the so-called voto rogado.
They are a total of 1,046,757, registered in the census of residents living abroad (CERA) and will be able to vote in the regional elections, along with another 8,896 who will be able to do so in Ceuta and Melilla.
These voters will receive in a double shipment a voting envelope and another addressed to the electoral board, the ballots will be downloaded and they will be able to vote either in a ballot box, at the consulates, or by certified postal mail.
On the other hand, foreign residents in Spain may vote in municipal elections, coming from countries of the European Union or who have a reciprocal agreement and have expressed their intention to vote. There are 414,581 voters included in the computation of the 36 million called to the polls.
Consultation of the census, claims and request not to receive advertising
The census can be consulted between April 10 and 17 in town halls and delegations of the Electoral Census Office (OCE) and on the same dates in consular offices for residents abroad. With the Cl@ave system, it can also be consulted on the INE website.
Claims can be submitted within the same period, which in the case of residents in Spain can be processed online for the first time, again with the Cl@ave system and also providing a valid census certificate.
Until April 17, you can request not to receive electoral advertising, either on the INE website or in town halls, consular offices or OCE delegations.
Interior launches the logo and the election website
The Ministry of the Interior has launched this Tuesday, coinciding with the publication in the BOE of the royal decree, the official logo of the elections as well as the page, elecciones.locales2023.es.
Access to this portal, available in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque and Valencian and, as a novelty this year, also in English, can be done from this Tuesday through a highlight on the website of the Ministry of the Interior (www.interior .gob.es)
The website collects relevant information for citizens on how to exercise their right to vote, the electoral calendar, or the different candidacies that are presented, among other issues, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.
Voters will be able to solve any doubt on the modalities of voting in person or by mail on this portal; about the opening hours of schools; or on the personal identification documents that must be presented at the polling stations.
