Logroño, (EFE).- The nine members of the popular jury of the trial on the crime of the 9-year-old boy, Álex, which occurred on October 28, 2021 in Lardero (La Rioja), have begun to deliberate the object of the verdict towards the 1:45 p.m. this Wednesday.
The deliberation began after the magistrate delivered the object of the verdict to the jury, once the trial sessions, which began on March 20, will end yesterday, Tuesday, with the final sentence requests by the public, popular and private accusations for the defendant, Francisco Javier Almeida, and his defense.
Almeida, who had been on probation since April 2020, is being tried as the alleged perpetrator of murdering and sexually assaulting Álex and, when he took the floor in the last session of the trial, he apologized to the family and said that he had no “intention to kill the little one in no time.”
The prosecutor, and the private accusations, exercised by the minor’s family, and popular, on behalf of the Clara Campoamor Association, request for Almeida a reviewable permanent prison sentence for the crime of murder and 15 years in prison for sexual assault .
His defense requests free acquittal and, secondarily, if he is found guilty, that the mitigating factors of reparation for damages and confession be taken into account.
Almeida was already sentenced to 30 years in prison for the crimes of murder and sexual assault on a real estate agent in Logroño in 1998, for which he was tried in a popular court trial; he already 7 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor in 1993.
