Logroño (EFE).- Óscar PR, sentenced by the Provincial Court of La Rioja to 22 years in prison for the murder of Javier Ovejas, whose body has not appeared, has decided to appeal the sentence before the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ) of this community, sources close to his defense explained to EFE on Monday.
The decision to present the appeal was adopted this past weekend by the convicted person, who is willing to go to the Supreme Court, “if necessary”, in the event that the TSJ confirms the sentence of the Provincial Court.
On the 20th, the Court sentenced Óscar PR to 22 years in prison for the murder of Ovejas on July 29, 2021 in the Riojan municipality of Entrena; to 9 months in prison for the crime of illegal possession of weapons and to pay 100,000 euros to the victim’s partner and 200,000 euros to his father and brothers.
The sentence includes the verdict of the court of the jury of the trial that was held in Logroño during seven days last June and that unanimously found the defendant guilty of one crime of murder and another of illegal possession of weapons.
Defense sources have influenced this Monday that the convicted person, since his arrest a few days after the disappearance of Ovejas, insists on his innocence, protected by the fact that the victim’s body has not been found and that he is convinced that he is alive and that “he will appear at any moment”.
They also understand that the different evidence presented during the trial to prove that a murder had taken place and that the defendant disposed of the body in an undetermined place are not “solid” and believe that “a professional court will not be able to accept them as such”, so they trust that the appeal before the TSJ of La Rioja will prosper.
