Rio de Janeiro (EFE) the same period (34%), according to a survey by the firm Ipec.
According to the survey, which interviewed 2,000 people between March 2 and 6 in 128 different municipalities and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points, while 41% of Brazilians approve of the government of the progressive leader, 30 % consider it regular and 24% fail it.
In March 2019, after three months in office, the Bolsonaro government was rated as good by 34%, as regular by 34%, and as lousy by 24%.
Despite the good approval ratings with which the leader of the leftist Workers’ Party (PT) started the Government, Lula’s popularity is still far from what it was in January 2003, when he assumed his first term (51% approval ), and in January 2007, when the second began (49% approval).
According to Ipec, the current popularity index of the progressive leader reflects the even result of the October presidential elections, in which, in the midst of a historic polarization in Brazil, Lula prevailed by less than two percentage points over Bolsonaro, who aspired to be re-elected.
According to the poll, a large part of those who qualify Lula’s government as “regular” say they have voted for Bolsonaro and among the voters of the far-right leader, 54% disapprove of the new Administration.
Cavallari explained that the sectors that most approve of the government are the ones that gave the most votes to the progressive last year: the poorest, the least educated, Catholics and the inhabitants of the impoverished northeast of Brazil.
In the northeast, the only region of the country in which Lula received much more votes than Bolsonaro, the approval of the progressive is 53%, while in the rich agricultural region of the center-west the positive evaluation is only 31%.
In the southeast, the most populous and richest region of Brazil because it includes the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, 36% approve of the Government and 26% disapprove.
Among the evangelicals, who mostly said they were supporters of Bolsonaro, 39% trust Lula and 58% distrust him. Of the Catholics, 45% approve of his government and 21% disapprove.
While the positive evaluation of the Government is 50% among those who earn up to 2 minimum wages, that of those who earn more than 5 wages is limited to 38%.
