Palma, Mar 7 (EFE).- The Spanish tennis player Feliciano López, 42, has announced this Tuesday at the Berlin Tourism Fair (ITB), that he will play in the Mallorca Championships that will take place from June 24 to July, his last professional tournament in Spain.
López, former player number 12 in the world in 2015, winner of seven ATP individual titles, confirmed that this year he will put an end to his career after receiving an invitation to play the Majorcan tournament in Calvià, the only one in Spain that is played on courts of natural grass.
“In Mallorca I will play my last professional tournament in Spain. The island is a spectacular place and one of the most important tourist destinations in the world and a tournament of the Mallorca Championships level helps to continue in that line and I am happy to say goodbye here”, said the tennis player from Toledo in statements to the organizers of the Balearic tournament .
The event held at the ITB in Berlin was attended by, among others, Catalina Cladera, president of the Consell de Mallorca, Iago Negueruela, Minister of Economic Model, Tourism and Labor of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the promoter of Mallorca Championschips, Edwin Weindorfer.
Feliciano López has achieved numerous successes for Spanish tennis, including 7 ATP titles, 5 Davis Cup and Roland Garros champion in doubles.
In addition, he has the participation record with 79 consecutive appearances in Grand Slams and having played at least 20 times in each “big” tournament.
