Logroño, Feb 22 (EFE).- Logroño will host from October 2 to 8 of this year the central acts, at the national level, to commemorate the festivity of the patron saint of the Civil Guard, the Virgen del Pilar, which will include a parade military and a parade through the streets of the city, in which some 500 agents will participate.
The director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, has announced this Wednesday the celebration of these events in the capital of La Rioja, in an informative conference accompanied by the president of the regional Executive, Concha Andreu, the mayor of Logroño, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, and the Government delegate in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz.
Gámez has detailed that, in addition to the military parade and the parade on the 8th, whose route is yet to be specified, there will be workshops, exhibitions, seminars, concerts by the Civil Guard music unit, popular walks and exhibitions of units of the Armed Institute.
Also, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the incorporation of women into the Civil Guard, which is precisely this Wednesday, it is planned to organize some activity on equality.
He added that it will be used to celebrate in Logroño, during the first week of October, the 50th anniversary of the Civil Guard’s air and explosive disposal services.
It has influenced the special “linkage” of the Civil Guard with Logroño, by hosting the Rural Action Unit (UAR), with the Rapid Action Group (GAR) and the Special Training Center (CAE).
The General Director of the Civil Guard has highlighted that the celebration of the patron saint is one of the “most emotional” acts for this Corps, which was commemorated last year in the city of León and the previous year in Córdoba.
Hermoso de Mendoza thanked the Civil Guard for having accepted his request to host these events in Logroño, where the National Police Day was already held in September 2019 and also hosted the 2022 exercise of the Royal Guard last May.
Andreu recalled that his Government has “always” collaborated with the Civil Guard, but the latest circumstances, derived from the “tense moments” experienced during the pandemic, have brought the two institutions closer together, which have “strengthened their ties”.
For his part, Arraiz stressed that La Rioja is a “very lucky” land for “having the privilege” of hosting the UAR de la Benemérita in its capital, an “elite” body that is “a benchmark of security.”
