Logroño, (EFE).- The photographer Ricardo Cases has told EFE that, in creative disciplines, “at first, what you have to do is go crazy with something that really excites you and that going crazy does not have to be conditioned or frustrated by the obstacles”.
Cases (Orihuela, Alicante, 1971) gave a conference on photography this Friday in Logroño at the Superior School of Design of La Rioja (ESDIR), within the framework of its 28 Design Conferences.
This photographer has encouraged young creative students to “simplify the needs as much as possible because, in the end, limitations are a creative exercise in itself.”
“I try to remove the ‘iron’ from this matter of creation and encourage them to be active and to do things and materialize ideas”, he stressed; as well as that, “in the end, they don’t have so much hope of achieving a result with these ideas because that is a source of frustration, especially at a professional level.”
He has indicated that, in his case, “photography is a facilitator of personalities, ideas and stories that you carry in your head”, for which he has encouraged the students to “with their tools, whether they are graphic design or fashion, try to have that attitude, which is what it touches ».
Cases has highlighted that “right now there is tremendous pressure in the labor market and if you have high expectations of getting a job right out of school, this is delicate” and “it may be practical for you to work regardless of the results and get excited ».
be persevering
“In my case, I had to insist and be persevering. I did weddings and everything you can think of with photography, and I kept doing it until, finally, the opportunity arose years later », he pointed out.
He has stressed that «if something creative really excites you and you have something there, like an impulse, and the creative matter makes you happy, sooner or later you end up finding the crack through which you can, at least, have a work experience ».
On how he would define his style of work, he has indicated that his images “have to do with the documentary” and it is a photograph “very related” to the landscape that surrounds his own house.
«There are authors who need scholarships because they want to travel to strange places to take photos, but a reference to my work is that I always sleep in my bed, that is, with some exceptions, my creative journey has to do with the instances that are lit from my house until the light ends”, he highlighted.
However, he has commented that this framework in which he carries out his work was expanded from 2018, when he went from only photographing the rural environment in which he lives to taking photos of the city of Valencia, to which he traveled “with a certain exoticism , like the one who goes to Africa ».
“I began to write chronicles of the city, to go out and seek self-interest with matters that are often absurd, and I made fanzines at home,” he said, which he will compile in the exhibition “El ficus del Parterre », whose inauguration will be on March 31 at the Carmen Center for Contemporary Culture (CCC) in Valencia.
