Logroño, (EFE).- The building that collapsed on Tuesday in Logroño, where a worker died under the rubble, had been sold a few months ago by the Purísima Concepción and Santa María Micaela (Adoratrices) schools to a promoter, who was planning to build a residence there.
This has been detailed by the school in a note, in which it has indicated that the building in which the works were carried out, attached to the educational center, no longer belongs to the religious congregation that runs it, but to a promoter.
A wing of this annex building, made up of three floors and a basement, has collapsed vertically, in a cascade, into the area of the school’s inner courtyard and has hit three workers who were in that area of the work, of which two have been rescued alive and another has died after being buried by the rubble.
The school has regretted the death of the worker who was hit in the collapse, as well as the damage suffered by his two colleagues; and has transferred his “pain and accompaniment to their families in such hard times.”
When the events occurred, staff from the center were also at the school, but no one was injured, since all the people were evacuated immediately.
The school has thanked all the expressions of affection received and has asked whoever wants it to join in praying for all the people affected and their families.
For their part, the UGT and CCOO have called for this Wednesday separate concentrations for this work accident, in which the three affected workers were hired by a subcontractor of the work.
