León (EFE).- The Civil Guard has arrested on Monday the two men of Portuguese nationality, wanted since Saturday for their alleged involvement in the violent death of a 57-year-old woman, whose body was found in a well on a farm they own in the town of Reliegos, a town in the Leonese municipality of Santas Martas.
As sources close to the investigation have informed EFE, the arrest took place in the Leonese town of San Justo de la Vega, some 70 kilometers from Reliegos.
The two detainees had resided for the last few weeks in the victim’s house, which used to take in people who helped him with agricultural work on the organic farm he cultivated in Reliegos and were the main suspects in his death.
A friend of the victim reported her disappearance.
A friend of the victim was the one who reported the disappearance of Katia SP on Friday night, since she was surprised not to hear anything from her since early in the morning of that day, and a search operation was established that concluded early on Saturday afternoon with the discovery of the body in a well located on a farm where the victim was engaged in organic farming.
The Civil Guard recovered the body and the judge who has taken charge of the case decreed summary secrecy.
The first indications pointed to the alleged link of those now detained with the violent death of the woman, since they had not been seen in the town since Friday, and also from the Government Sub-delegation it was reported that there was no history of gender violence nor does it seem, in principle, that it is the cause of the event.
The victim was a well-known woman in the town, where she ran La Huertina de Reliegos, a business dedicated to organic farming and in 2020 she had participated in the 7 program of Castilla y León “I’m going back to the town”, which recreates the life experience of people who decide to leave the city to return to rural areas and start a new life project.
He welcomed people into his home in exchange for help in his business
Neighbors of the victim have explained to EFE that Katia SP used to welcome people into her home in exchange for helping her in her agricultural business, and the investigation focused on trying to locate the last men she took in under her roof until her arrest this Monday.
These two men had been residing in the victim’s house for several weeks, according to some neighbors, and the Civil Guard searched the area since Saturday in search of their location and arrest in San Justo de la Vega, a municipality very close to Astorga.
