Madrid (EFE).- Hotel overnight stays increased by 13.5% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2022 and reached a record high of 149.76 million stays, 270,000 more than between January and June 2019, the National Statistics Institute (INE) reported on Monday.
The prices of Spanish hotels rose 8% in the interannual rate in June, which means the smallest increase since December 2022, while hotels entered an average of 80.5 euros per day for each available room (the highest figure in the series in a month of June).
Between January and June, hotel prices increased by an average of 9.8% in the interannual rate.
Only in June, the increase in stays stood at 3.3% in relation to the same month last year, up to 36.2 million records, almost one million less than in the same month of 2019.
Of these stays, 33% corresponded to Spaniards (1.2% less in the interannual rate) and the rest, to foreigners (5.6% more).
The average stay decreased by 1.4% compared to June 2022, to 3.2 accommodations per traveler.
UK first market
Travelers from the United Kingdom remained the first market in number of overnight stays for non-residents in Spain, which has been the case since January of last year, and only in June they accounted for 30.2% of the total and Germans, 18.6%.
In terms of employment, Spanish hotels increased their staff employed in accommodation by 7.6% last month, with 281,190 people employed, which is the highest figure in a month of June since the beginning of the series, in 1999.
By region, Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community were the main destinations for travelers residing in Spain to stay in June, with 21.6%, 15.7% and 12.6% of the total overnight stays, respectively.
For foreigners, the main destination in June was the Balearic Islands, with 33.9% of all accommodations, followed by the Canary Islands (19%) and Catalonia (18.3%).
