Barcelona (EFE).- The MEP of JxCat Clara Ponsatí has reappeared today in Barcelona after on June 21 Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena issued a national arrest warrant against her for not appearing before him on April 24, when he summoned her to notify him of his prosecution for a crime of disobedience in the “procés”.
In a message on her Twitter account, Ponsatí has posted a photo that places her next to the modernist Casa Vicens, designed by Antoni Gaudí, in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona.
“Taking advantage of the cool morning, I took a walk to Casa Vicenç. As long as we are here, Catalonia will continue to stand. Good morning, Barcelona!”, the ex-minister also wrote in the message.
On April 24, Ponsatí did not attend Llarena’s summons, alleging that that same day he had two commitments in Brussels that were “incompatible” with his summons in Madrid.
After his failure to appear, the examining magistrate of the case for the Catalan independence process of 2017 consulted the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, who were inclined to summon Ponsatí again, although Llarena finally opted to issue a national arrest warrant against her with the aim of making her available to the court and informing her of her prosecution.
The judge affirmed in his order that Ponsatí had “voluntarily and unjustifiably disregarded the judicial summons”, although he specified that the order could be rendered null and void if he voluntarily appeared before him.
Regarding the parliamentary obligations that he claimed for not appearing, Llarena stressed that Ponsatí was summoned before the Supreme Court on the morning of April 24, while the political commitments that he alleged were scheduled for the afternoon, reasonably compatible through the videoconference request.
The Mossos d’Esquadra are trying to verify the presence of Ponsatí in Barcelona to proceed with his arrest, according to sources from the body.
