He has congratulated “who has won the elections in the Canary Islands, the Socialist Party, and the forces that have obtained their seats”, because “it is important news that the space that represented the extreme right cannot enter a Government of Spain”.
They have been “deeply polarized elections where” we were risking a model of democracy”, he stressed.
Campos has thanked the support of the almost 42,000 people from the province of Las Palmas and the Canary Islands as a whole who have voted for them and, although they were “aware of the difficulty of opening ourselves up to that space, it has not been possible”, although he has confessed that he is “very satisfied” because they are “the leading force in the nationalist Canarian space in the province”.
“We have been able to open up a gap, transferring a clear idea”, he expressed, and although it is “a pity that this province of Las Palmas does not have a deputy of Canarian obedience”, Nueva Canarias “will be in the government, in the opposition or even outside the institutions at times, always attentive to state policy, because it has repercussions in the Canary Islands”.
As he has insisted, his party will “monitor” and be “vigilant.”
Campos has indicated that they have “some reflection and continue working in that direction” ahead of them.
“We were clear that we were going to fight and we have been in the fight until the last second,” he said.
He has also congratulated the Canarian society for having exceeded the participation of the previous general elections and, above all, for “civic behavior”.
As he stressed, “Canarian society is infinitely better than some who try to divide it, and today has been a very clear example.”
Roman Rodriguez
For his part, the president of Nueva Canarias, Román Rodríguez, has expressed that in a “polarized” campaign and despite not having obtained representation, they are “happy that the extreme right does not enter the Government of Spain” because “it is a victory for Spanish society and for progressive forces.”
As he has warned, the bipartisanship “regains strength after losing control of hegemony in 2015” since in recent years “it has recovered positions and today they already represent 65%” of the vote cast for the Socialist Party and the Popular Party.
There has been “a clear setback of the territorial forces and, especially of the small political forces,” he said, because “polarization has reached its maximum degree in recent years and in recent months in a very relevant way.”
In his opinion, “the political map that comes out tonight is enormously complex for its management and it is probable, I am not saying that it is desirable, a situation of blockade” and electoral repetition.
Rodríguez has been satisfied that “the progressive forces have resisted, although it has harmed us.”
Nueva Canarias “is structured, organized based on principles, values and militancy, and we fight in all areas including the most adverse areas,” he added.
If “a new electoral battle” arises in the coming months, he has announced that “there will surely be a candidacy from Nueva Canarias to fight for our principles, for our ideas and for the Canary Islands”. EFE
