Madrid (EFE).- After many years trying out different musical styles, the Colombian brothers Alejandro and Mauricio Rengifo, better known as Cali & El Dandee, decide to return to their melodic roots with their new song “Amor”, which recalls their acquaintances “I will wait for you” (2011) or “Don’t say anything” (2012).
The song, written by both, and which talks about a toxic relationship and the crazy things that are done for love, is a single with urban rhythms, but which maintains the essence of its beginnings. “We wanted precisely to go back to the beginning, to the music we were listening to, as well as the way of writing that we had before,” the duet told EFE in an interview.
“Love” is part of a trilogy of songs that “have to do with each other and the videos are very related.” “The three follow a chronological line, but it deforms as it progresses. This first one has a lot to do with the Cali and El Dandee of the beginnings, mixing ballads with rap, and as we progress with the songs, the genre does so with them”, they highlight.
The brothers have wanted to return to the past so much, that even that “love” or that girl they sing to in their new song is the same one to whom they dedicated their verses when they started in music: “What happens if we start a second time / We return 2010 in 2023”, says a verse of “Love”.
Eager to create new music
The Colombians, who are in a great moment, confess that they really want to continue creating new music, so much so that they have almost finished their next album that will see the light “very soon, before it starts to get cold in Spain”, they advance.
The duo, which aims to release singles in the coming months, emphasizes that they want to make “music from Cali and El Dandee” alone, because the creation process is “faster and more agile.”
“For this album we want there to be no collaboration, it will be very different from ‘Malibu’ (2022). It will be very much ours, like what we were doing at the beginning, but now with a better sound (they laugh), with love songs, transcendental, dedicable and the occasional danceable one”, they detail.
The brothers, who launched the collaboration “Puerta del Sol” a few weeks ago with Mar Lucas and Juan Magán, are finishing their tour of Spain, which has taken them to the main festivals of the peninsula, in the absence of a concert at the Sabatic Festival in Malaga (July 27).
Both celebrate singing again “songs that people love very much” and say they are “super happy” to be in Spain, where they assure that the public is “different”.
“Spain is the first country that supported us outside of Colombia, so every time we come to sing here we do it with delight, it’s like a vacation. And people are super excited with us every time we go on stage, together we put on some fantastic shows”, they affirm.
