Pamplona (EFE).- A total of 1,344 cyclists accompanied five-time Tour de France champion Miguel Induráin this Saturday in the race that bears his name, “La Induráin”, which started from Villava, his hometown.
The race, which is being held on this occasion thirty years after the Navarrese’s double win in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, started from Villava at 8:00 a.m. in the midst of a great cycling atmosphere. The great protagonist, as every year, has been Miguel Induráin.
There have been many runners who have approached Induráin to greet him and take photos with him before the start. The test has had the participation, among others, of the former soccer player Paco Camarasa, the sports comedian Javi Sancho and the ex-cyclists Luis Pasamontes, Fernando Escartin and Melcior Mauri.
Three distances to choose from
The cycling tour has three distances to choose from. As in the last edition, there is a 60-kilometer route, another 100 and a third 180 with the aim, in all of them, of enjoying a festive day along the roads where Induráin prepared his challenges.
The most affordable category takes place in one of the most wooded areas of Navarra, passing through the towns of Urroz, Erro, Zubiri, Huarte and Villava with an accumulated altimetry of 700 meters that includes a third category ascent.
The second option crosses Aoiz, Olaldea, Mezquiriz, Erro, Zubiri, Huarte and Villava. There are 100 kilometers of route with a special charm and an accumulated altimetry of 1,452 meters that includes two third category ascents and one second category.
180 kilometers for the most daring
For the most daring, the organization proposes a distance of 180 kilometers starting and finishing in Villava and with a cumulative drop of 3,133 metres, with two third category ascents, one second category and three demanding first category ascents.
In the 180 kilometer test there are about 700 registered, in the 100 kilometer race about 500 and in the 60 kilometer race about 100. The female participation from last year is maintained.
75% of the runners are from outside Navarra, including cyclists from countries such as France, Belgium, Germany, the United States or Italy.
The jersey designed for the occasion evokes the pink of the Giro and the yellow of the Tour together with its characteristic green color and a map of the route with Induráin’s signature.
