After the drop in temperatures registered yesterday, the heat returns, which will make tomorrow Sunday a hot day, with an almost general rise in temperatures that, according to the website of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), will be notable in Navarra, La Rioja, Aragon and Valencia.
Today, sunny and stable weather is the trend in almost the entire country, but with the possibility of precipitation this afternoon in the north of Galicia, the Cantabrian area and other parts of Catalonia and the Valencian Community.
Pending an increase in temperatures tomorrow, which will activate the orange warning in areas of Andalusia and Navarra, today’s highs will be higher than those of Friday, with typical summer heat, although with a slight decrease in the Mediterranean area and the Canary Islands.
In the Bay of Biscay, the thermometers will also remain at more moderate values today, which will oscillate between 24 degrees in Santander and 27 in Vitoria.
The brief but intense heat wave at the beginning of this week left the map stained with orange and red alerts, but today Aemet only has yellow level warnings activated for heat in the provinces of Córdoba, Granada and Jaén.
In the Cordoba countryside, the Genil basin in Granada and the Guadalquivir valley in Jaén, the yellow alert for temperatures, which can reach 38 degrees, is active between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Thermometers are expected to reach 36 in Ciudad Real; 35 in Cáceres or Albacete; 33 in Girona, Zaragoza or Alicante and 30 in Pontevedra, indicate the Aemet data. In the Balearic Islands, maximum temperatures of 32 degrees are expected in Palma, while in the Canary Islands they will be 28 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
So far, the temperature has reached 33.8 degrees in Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz); 33.4 in Mazarrón (Murcia) and 33.3 in Seville, according to the data collected until 1:00 p.m. on the Aemet website.
The risk of storms also has a yellow alert active from 3:00 p.m. in the north of Teruel (Cuencas Mineras and Bajo Aragón regions), and the eastern half of Zaragoza, which can be accompanied by hail.
The start of tomorrow’s election day will be marked by stable weather and it will be hotter than today, with highs that will rise in most of the Peninsula, although there may be a drop in Galicia.
Three provincial capitals will reach or exceed 40 degrees: Córdoba, Ciudad Real and Granada. At the other extreme, Donostia, Coruña, Santander and Oviedo will remain at a maximum of 24, Aemet estimates.
In much of the country, stable and dry weather will prevail, with little cloudy skies or with intervals of medium and high clouds, which in the Canary Islands could leave some light rain in the north of the higher-profile islands. Instability will grow in the afternoon in Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea.
The Aemet considers it probable that it will reach between 36 and 38 degrees in much of the interior of the southern half, center and interior of Mallorca, while in the valleys of the Guadalquivir and the Ebro the thermometer will climb to 38 or 40.
Thus, the orange warning for temperatures will be activated in areas of Córdoba, Granada and Jaén, between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. due to a significant risk of reaching 40 degrees.
There will also be an orange warning, in the same time zone, in Navarra, specifically in the center and on the banks of the Ebro, where temperatures can rise to 37 and 39 degrees, respectively.
A situation typical of the heatwave of this time of year against which the town halls are preparing to make the heat more bearable in a good part of the 22,500 polling stations.
Faced with this scenario, it is the zone electoral boards, dependent on the municipalities, that must guarantee spaces that are as cool as possible, for voters and, above all, for the members of the polling stations, who will spend the day there.
In warmer areas such as the Levant, the center or the southwest of the country, the voting centers have been provided with fans, portable refrigeration equipment and the supply of water bottles for the people who are at the polling stations.
