Miami (EFE).- “Barbie”, the film about the most famous doll in history, is sweeping the US box office, specialized media said this Saturday, highlighting that the combination of that film with another hit, “Oppenheimer”, will mark a revenue milestone since the pandemic.
After achieving 22.2 million dollars (19.96 million euros) in pre-sale on Thursday, the highest amount of 2023, “Barbie” added 48.2 million dollars (43.3 million euros) on Friday, which means a total of 70.5 million dollars (63.45 million euros), also a record for this year.
The brand was held by “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, with 51.8 million dollars (46.6 million euros) in June.
According to Deadline, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”, which is a film with a completely different theme, since it recreates the figure of the father of the atomic bomb, will jointly raise 308 million dollars (277 million euros) during the weekend, the highest figure since 2021 and, according to Comscore, the fourth highest of all time.
Great expectations with Barbie
In the absence of official figures, which will be released on Monday, the media and the film industry estimate that the Warner Bros. film about the Mattel doll will achieve 161 million dollars (114.9 million euros) in revenue between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“Oppenheimer” got 33 million dollars (29.7 million euros) in the premiere and is estimated to have a box office of 77 million dollars (69.3 million euros) in its first weekend on the billboard.
Greta Gerwig’s pink film about the famous doll and Universal’s Christopher Nolan’s dark film about the creator of the atomic bomb hit theaters at the same time on Friday, July 21.
Margot Robbie plays Barbie and Ryan Gosling plays her boyfriend Ken, as blond as she is, while Cillian Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer.
