Madrid (EFE).- The Community of Madrid has detected the first case of botulism in the region, linked to the consumption of one of the products (potato tortillas) distributed in the commercial network by the Palacios Alimentación business group.
This Thursday morning the Ministry of Health has been informed of this circumstance so that it can adopt the appropriate measures, the regional government indicates in a press release.
The regional Executive now hopes that the Ministry of Health will adopt the necessary measures as quickly as possible, given that the different cases (confirmed and probable) that affect different parts of the country, such as Galicia, Asturias, Valencia and Andalusia, as well as Madrid.
The Community of Madrid, underlined in the note, has complied “with speed and diligence” with the protocol established by the health authorities in response to the detection of this case of botulism, which has made it possible to immediately identify the product in question, isolate it and remove it from the shelves in Madrid supermarkets.
On Friday of last week, July 14, given the existence of the alleged case, already confirmed, the General Directorate of Public Health communicated its suspicions to the Center for Coordination and Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health.
The regional Executive has transmitted a message of tranquility to the population: “There is no reason to be alarmed, but it is recommended, out of prudence, not to consume the product in question during the next few days, while it is isolated and withdrawn from all the lines of commercial establishments”.
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has asked the autonomous communities to verify the withdrawal of products affected by an outbreak of botulism from marketing channels, after the Palacios Group has decided to withdraw them from the points of sale.
