Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- Striker Ángel Rodríguez, one of the signings of CD Tenerife for the 2023-2024 season, has acknowledged in his official presentation that being promoted to the First Division again with his hometown team -he already did it in 2009- would be “a climax” to his career, after consummating his return to the island thirteen years later.
The 36-year-old veteran striker from Tenerife has admitted that although there was interest “some time ago”, he decided to return now because he considers that he still has “football” and wants to help the Blue and Whites have a “good year”, which he considers “a challenge”, although he recalls that it is a “very complicated” category in which they must go “game by game”.
Ángel believes that there is a “competitive team” that is going to give “a lot of joy”, and he has also assured that in all the teams in which he has played he has always felt “responsibility”, but it is not the same “as playing here at home”.
The island striker has not scored a number of goals, but he has acknowledged that he is “very excited” to score again at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, and promises a special dedication for his daughters when that first goal arrives.
“I am going back home, Tenerife is the team of my life, but it was not an easy decision, I know that the people expect a lot from me and I have to do the same thing that I have been doing for many seasons, I hope to be able to satisfy the fans and fill the stadium with joy, because they are going to go there with great enthusiasm”, he underlined.
Ángel pointed out that in LaLiga Hypermotion (Second Division) there are “ten or twelve teams that also want to be promoted”, but he considers that if Tenerife shows solidity, the good results of the blue and white team “will arrive”. EFE
