Santa Cruz De Tenerife (EFE) up to 30% if he governs and if he does not clarify it, he added, it is “a democratic fraud”.
Unai Sordo has referred to the debate on the pension system in a press conference in the capital of Tenerife on the occasion of the assembly that CCOO plans to develop throughout this day to mobilize the vote of workers and workers.
The top union leader has indicated that it is not a question of whether the statements of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, regarding whether the previous popular governments cut pensions were a mistake or a lie because, he has reiterated, this “was like that” during the three years of government of Mariano Rajoy.
The question, Unai Sordo continued, is that the PP intended to apply a “drastic” cut of up to 30 percent for the coming decades based on the increase in life expectancy in Spain and therefore “the question is whether the PP It plans to put this model back on its feet if it accesses the central Executive after the elections on Sunday.
In this regard, the general secretary of the CCOO has assured that “the moment is transcendental” because Spain faces the dilemma of whether to continue progressive policies or, on the contrary, validate those of “drastic cuts” in public services “and repression of the civil and democratic rights.
That is the dilemma “and not the Martian debates that have been put on the table” about ETA or the “marginal” phenomenon of housing occupation, instead of discussing the protection of workers and the continuity of the Iberian exception in the energy sector, for example.
In his opinion, “fears are being exploited” and for this reason there has never been so much talk in Spain of things “that do not exist”, leaving aside the economic policy that has managed to maintain employment after the pandemic, and on the contrary generated “a sensation of chaos that explains the reinforcement of the reactionary forces”.
“The challenges are there” and for this reason the CCOO has called for the massive participation of people “who live on a salary, a pension or a social benefit”, while insisting that the union “is not aseptic or equidistant” and asks to vote for progressive candidates.
In addition, Sordo has transmitted a “very clear” message to all workers and pensioners regarding the electoral promises of general tax cuts that, in his opinion, are a trap and the parties that defend it are actually covertly announcing future cuts in health, education and dependency.
“That a reduction of 12 euros is applied to the personal income tax on the payroll is not going to get anyone out of poverty, but in the end you will have to pay much more to supply yourself with the cut services in the private market because that tax cut will fill the portfolio of the companies that provide specialized services”, stated Unai Sordo.
And then why, when there has been a very different response to the crisis by the Spanish Government and the European Union, are reactionary, nationalist and asocial forces emerging, asked the general secretary of the CCOO, who also questioned how a worker that collects the minimum interprofessional wage can vote for a party that is against said measure.
The answer may be, according to the union leader, that this party tells the worker “what they want to hear” on issues such as the rejection of feminism.
Likewise, at the press conference, Unai Sordo called for “an all-out offensive” against the submerged economy, also by companies that have unfair competition in this practice, and that although he believes it has been reduced, it is still in force in communities such as Canary Islands, in which the majority economic sectors are services and the countryside.
