Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE) fuels in the green islands, while the drop in the IGIC will remain for 2024.
The first agreements and the first appointments have been presented at a press conference by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Vice President of the Government, Manuel Domínguez, who have stated that “nobody” had told them that from 2024 they are going to reactivate the European fiscal rules to control the deficit and the debt.
The vice president has framed these tax reductions in the committed tax relief plan “alive, dynamic and adaptable to each of the times”, which begins in the first place with the 99% bonus on Inheritance and Gift Tax.
The reduction of the fuel tax in La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma will take place “as soon as the following decisions are made”.
Regarding the IGIC, it has announced that they have begun the analysis “so that it takes effect in the 2024 financial year with the approval of the next budget, something that is already being worked on”.
Stricter spending rules
Domínguez explained that the Minister of Finance and Relations with the European Union, Matilde Asián, warned the Governing Council of something that “nobody had told us”, that the spending rules for the 2024 financial year are going to “be frozen by the Central government”.
“We did not have that information; the indebtedness, the use of the remaining treasury, etc., etc., is foreseen by the Government of Spain that cannot be carried out, something that greatly limits the development of the planned activity”, according to the new vice president and Minister of Economy , Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed.
Domínguez considers, regarding spending rules, that “everything will depend on what happens in the next elections,” because “measures will be taken at the national level.”
In addition, Domínguez continued, “depending on the accounts presented to the European Union, these spending rules will be allowed with more or less flexibility.”
But the Government of the Canary Islands maintains its objective of “paying back the effort that citizens have made” by paying taxes and will try to settle their accounts “beyond the decisions that are adopted at the national or European level.”
For his part, the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has shown his concern about the damage to Canarian fishermen due to the termination of the fishing agreement between the European Union and Morocco.
End of the fisheries agreement with Morocco
The Canarian government has requested an urgent meeting with the area’s minister, Luis Planas, to deal with this situation, which affects around fifteen artisanal fishing boats in Lanzarote.
“We are going to request the presence of the Canary Islands in the meetings because it will generate economic losses for the families due to the laziness and lack of diligence of the governments of the Canary Islands and Spain,” said Clavijo.
The president has also announced that they will ask the Government of Spain for a “temporary exception” for Canarian companies in the application of the Entrepreneurship Law, which prevents those whose average payment period to suppliers exceeds 30 from receiving subsidies of more than 30,000 euros. days.
The uniqueness of the Canary Islands has not been taken into account, Clavijo has argued, because many small and medium-sized companies are waiting to receive subsidies for the transport of goods to pay their suppliers.
That is why they need a transitional period in 2022 and 2023 that the central government can articulate in a bill, to adapt to the average period of magician to suppliers established in the law, he has affirmed.
Application for aid for La Palma due to the fire
Clavijo has also announced that the Governing Council has commissioned the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata, to request aid from the central government to compensate for the losses caused by the forest fire in La Palma, which will be added to those approved by the Canarian executive.
Manuel Domínguez has indicated, on the other hand, that this year the ceremony to start the school year, scheduled for September 11, will be held at the Agustín Hernández Díaz school, in Moya (Gran Canaria).
The Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez, has announced that he is preparing to speak with the unions about reaching an agreement for education, explained Domínguez. EFE
