Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, believes that “it is time to set a new course and the time to build a better future”, and has asked all the Canaries to unite with that objective and forget the political differences.
“The gap between rich Spain and poor Spain has grown more and more in recent years. And we, to the south of the south, have sailed deeper and deeper, into the seas of poverty”, highlighted Clavijo (CC), after taking office, an act attended by, among others, the minister of Tourism, Hector Gomez.
He considers that “we don’t have to ask anyone for anything because the answer is within ourselves”, and for this reason, in the next four years he will try to “convince the people of the Canary Islands that wanting is power”.
In Clavijo’s opinion, “for too many years we have lived in the effort to criticize and destroy. It is time to open your eyes, stretch out your hands and plant the seeds of a new harvest”.
And for this he has appealed to the union, “to achieve the best for the Canary Islands, no one is left over. We all need to defend the interests of this land”.
The Canarian president has insisted that “there is a common space, in which we can all meet, in the effort and the will to solve the serious problems that the two million longest of Canaries suffer from.”
Clavijo has assured that the new Government will fight for social justice, for equality, for the right of all Canaries to enjoy the same quality of life and the same opportunities and services.
“A new spirit is about to be built that will convince all the inhabitants of these islands of something elementary: we, with our talent, our capacity and our work, are perfectly capable of achieving greater wealth, greater prosperity and better well-being for all”, the Canarian president has stated.
To this end, it has pledged to achieve “a Canary Islands with a better quality of life, more opportunities for young and old, more sustainable and more equal”.
“A Canary Islands, as I said in my investiture speech, of equal islands in which your place of birth does not mark or condition your future life or work”, he highlighted.
Likewise, he has assured that his government will be “a democratic instrument to strengthen our economy, improve our social services and enhance our cultural identity.”
And for this, he believes it is necessary “to set aside our political interests to collaborate and lend a hand in the common interest.”
“The new Government of the Canary Islands was born with the hope of getting closer to the society of these islands. It was born with the desire to build new bridges that allow us to unite the opinion and strength of sectors of civil society”, the new president has signed.
Likewise, he has asked all the canaries “to get involved, to get together, to become stronger, to demand of us, to support us, so that we are able to form a new union that puts our islands at the center of all the efforts, all the struggles and all the decisions”
