Santander, (EFE) Feijóo, in which he said that “it is worth it” to fight the “battle” on 23J.
“When they tell me is it worth it? Well, of course it’s worth it! This battle we’re waging is very worthwhile (…) we have to be proud of everything we’ve done these five years,” Sánchez said at the rally held in the University Auditorium de Cantabria, in Santander, the first one he attended after last Thursday, on the occasion of the start of the campaign in Madrid.
In Cantabria, the PSOE aspires to grab votes and go from one to two seats in this constituency, taking advantage of the fact that the PRC, which obtained a seat in Congress in the 2019 general elections, is not appearing on this occasion in the elections.
Around 2,000 people have attended this event, which takes place at a time when the spirits in the PSOE are very low after Sánchez’s face to face with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, according to various socialist sources.
For this reason, one of the objectives of the meeting was to raise the morale of the socialist voters, and both Sánchez and the three ‘opening act’ have worked hard on this: the general secretary of the PSOE of Cantabria, Pablo Zuloaga; the secretary of Organization in this community, Noelia Cobo; and Cantabria’s candidate for Congress, Pedro Casares, one of the most enthusiastic.
Casares got those present to their feet to vindicate former socialist leaders such as Zapatero, Rubalcaba, Carme Chacó and Txiqui Benegas, among many others, after emphasizing that “no one can teach his party lessons” because “he has even given his life for achieve peace and freedom in this country.”
“What are you proud of the PSOE for?” He asked the audience to applause.
“How eager we are to win!” Sánchez continued, stressing that he is more eager to win “than ever” and that he is running for the elections “confident and convinced” that the PSOE will be the first force, among other things because it assures that the Government has done it “well”.
However, he has recognized that the PSOE has never had it “easy”.
Sánchez has insisted on contrasting the “advance” that in his opinion represents the coalition government with the “regression” that he affirms that the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and that of Vox, Santiago Abascal, embody, whom he presents in a same electoral ticket.
And he has linked the right wing today with that of 1912, recalling how after the murder of José Canalejas at the hands of an anarchist there were banners in Madrid that accused the founder of the PSOE, Pablo Iglesias, of this crime.
“The right has always used any method to reach power and undermine the credibility of the socialists. That is why what they are doing today, for example, or in many other debates, does not surprise me at all. What we have to do is claim fair play, hope, optimism and that Spain will move forward on July 23 ”, he added.
