Madrid (EFE) will lead to an almost general drop in temperatures.
However, during the second half of the week, and “even if the necessary thresholds for a heat wave are not exceeded”, the high or very high values will continue in a large part of the country, especially in the east and south of the peninsula, has advanced Rubén Del Campo, Aemet spokesman.
“It seems that today will be the last day” of this wave, said Del Campo, who has detailed the high and warm night temperatures: “This Wednesday morning, and with data recorded up to 6:00 a.m., more than a hundreds of stations in the Aemet network had not yet dropped below 25 degrees Celsius and even 28 degrees, as in the town of Alcoy (Alicante).
In Majorca sweltering early morning at 37.1 degrees
In Mallorca, for example, there was also an episode of suffocating heat tonight, with “extraordinarily high” temperatures at dawn, up to 37.1 degrees in the Sierra de Tramuntana at 4:00 a.m.
In addition, in the Balearic Islands, and in the middle of the Sierra de Tramuntana, at 3:00 a.m. the thermometers reached 35.9 degrees in the Port of Sóller, and at 2:00 a.m. the temperature was 35.3 degrees in Colònia de Sant Pere, east of the island.
In the Canary Islands, at 6:00 a.m. today, 31 degrees were registered in mid-range points of Gran Canaria, while in Barcelona the City Council activated the nighttime heat plan alert for the first time last night, since the minimum in the city it exceeded 25.9 degrees for several hours.
This Wednesday it is likely that 45 degrees will be reached again in points of the southeast, such as Almería or Murcia, for which reason the Aemet has activated the red warning (extreme risk) in Andalusia, the Region of Murcia and on the island of Gran Canarias , despite the arrival of cooler winds that will refresh the environment.
In Malaga it can exceed 42 degrees today
In the province of Malaga it could also exceed 42 degrees today due to the hot wind known as “terral” which has activated, for the first time so far this year, the red warning for high temperatures in the regions of Sol and Guadalhorce between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., while the orange level is maintained in the rest of the province of Malaga.
According to data from Aemet, this is due to the fact that there is “a warm starting situation, for days”, to which is added the terral, a dry and hot air that descends from the interior towards the coast.
In the Balearic Islands today, maximum temperatures of over 36 to 40 degrees will be recorded throughout that area, while in the rest of the peninsula “temperatures will be more typical of the season, more normal,” explained the spokesman. .
As for the Canary Islands, this Wednesday the heat will persist and in mid-range areas it could exceed 37 or 38 degrees and even 40 degrees in points of Gran Canaria.
With respect to the next few days, with no heat wave episode, temperatures are expected to fluctuate: tomorrow they will drop in the southeast of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, but they will rise in the west; on Friday there will be a thermal rise, especially in the northern half, while on Saturday they will drop in almost the entire country, except in the eastern end.
On Sunday the opposite will happen, they will go down in the eastern end, but they will go up in the rest, a rise that will also be general from Monday and Tuesday.
