Santander (EFE).- The Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) pays homage to the career of photographer Pablo Hojas on the one year anniversary of his death, and does so with an exhibition that includes a selection of the images he took during the 40 years in which who developed his work in this academic institution.
The rector of the UIMP, Carlos Andradas, and the vice-rector for Institutional Relations and Activities Programming, Matilde Carlón, have presented this tribute exhibition, called “Huellas”, together with the widow and son of Pablo Hojas, Elena Cuevas and David Hojas.
In the preparation of this exhibition, which is made up of 90 by 90 centimeter images that have been placed both inside the Palacio de la Magdalena and outside, Iván Guisado has collaborated with the son of Pablo Hojas, choosing the photographs. The images that are on the outside reflect the characters in those same places.
The footprint of Pablo Hojas
The photographs recreate different moments in the UIMP Summer Courses, but above all they reflect “the mark and impact that Pablo Hojas left” at the University, said Matilde Carlón.
Thus, there are images of artists such as Miquel Barceló and Ouka Leele, of the editor Carlos Barral, and also from Alaska, of film directors such as Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, of the poet José Hierro, or of the cardiologist Valentín Fuster, among other personalities who have participated in the Summer Courses.
Part of the photographs on display have been recovered from the exhibition that the UIMP already organized with the work of Pablo Hojas on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, 15 years ago.
David Hojas and his mother, Elena Cuevas, have thanked the UIMP and Iván Guisado for this exhibition in memory of Pablo Hojas, an exhibition that, as they have pointed out, reflects him.
“The UIMP was very important for Pablo, he put his batteries into action every summer… Knowing that he would have access to top-level personalities from culture, science, politics… and that he would be able to enrich his archive,” said his widow.
an effervescent time
He also stressed that the photographs chosen reflect a “bubbly” era at the UIMP, of “democracy” and “freedom”, with “very iconic characters”.
The vice-chancellor of the UIMP has encouraged people to enjoy these images, which are the “living legacy” of the Santander photographer, much loved in the city and in the academic institution.
As he added, this exhibition is a recognition by the community of the Menéndez Pelayo International University of a person “who left his mark” on everyone.
Born in Santander, the son and grandson of photographers, Hojas dedicated his life to photography, a profession with which he worked at the UIMP, first as a photojournalist and later as a photographer for the academic institution. He also worked and collaborated with various media, including the Efe Agency.
