Logroño, (EFE) A woman was murdered and her husband, both of Syrian origin and parents of three minors, has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
This is how he addressed the nearly 200 people who have gathered this afternoon in front of the collaborative mural against gender violence, inaugurated during the last legislature, once the Logroño City Council has activated the mourning protocol against sexist violence after the murder of this woman, 34 years old.
Escobar, before the protesters observed a minute of silence as a sign of respect for the victim, said “loud and clear” that “Logroño is a city of coexistence and respect, where violence makes no sense.”
He has affirmed that “the voice is unique” and they work “side by side” to offer the best response of the rule of law, firmly in the police sphere, with the regulations and with the existing democratic instruments; as well as work on prevention, awareness and training.
This Logroño mourning protocol is not just any symbol, he has indicated, but rather brings together 37 associations and entities that signed it and has encouraged them to continue working because there is still much to do.
He has praised the “magnificent” work of the National and Local Police of Logroño, that of the social services and that of the teachers, for which he believes that there are reasons for hope.
Escobar has affirmed that the victim, of Syrian origin, arrived in Logroño (8 years ago, along with her husband and children) seeking peace, life, fled the war and has found the worst of endings.
“For her and for so many others”, the mayor has had an impact, who has also remembered the three children of the victim, to whom he has transferred the support of the city and who are under the guardianship of the Community Social Services Autonomous of La Rioja.
Some of the people who have attended the rally have worn T-shirts with the slogan “zero tolerance”.
