International writing (EFE).- The British singer Elton John said goodbye to the stages and his millions of followers and fans last night with a concert in Stockholm in which he thanked all his fans for “52 years of pure joy playing music”.
And to say goodbye he used one of his historic songs “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. At 76, Elton John, winner of five Grammy Awards, a career spanning more than 50 years and 4,600 performances around the world, closed his tours to, as he said, give more time to his personal life.
“I will always carry you in my mind, in my heart and in my soul,” Elton John told his millions of fans, thousands of whom packed the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, where he performed two nights.
According to the Swedish press, the artist, dressed in a jewel-encrusted frock coat and very large glasses, opened his final performance with the megahit “Bennie and the jets”, in a concert that lasted more than two hours.
Elton John also paid tribute to his band, some of whose members have been with him for a long time and whom he said “are the best, absolutely the best.”
Another surprise of the night was that Coldplay, who is also touring Sweden, called Elton John from the Ullevi stage in Gothenburg.
“They will be sorely missed,” singer Chris Martin said to applause from the audience.
Elton John, who smiled looking at the giant screens in the stadium, thanked him for the words and replied that he was “a wonderful person.”
Elton John’s farewell tour began in 2018
Elton John’s farewell tour began in 2018 and is estimated to have been attended by more than six million people.
In each of the concerts on this tour, with the presence of a multigenerational audience, Elton has demonstrated the large number of good songs that he has composed throughout his life and the talent with which he interprets them.
From “Bennie and the Jets” to ending with “Candle in the wind”, going through “Rocket Man”, “The bitch is back”, “I’m still standing”, “Crocodile rock” and “Saturday night’s alright for fighting ”, are some of the songs used on the tour, which passed through the Spanish city of Barcelona in May.
Another of the highlights of the tour was his time at the Glastonbury festival with an “emotional” and packed show that was also his last concert in the United Kingdom.
“I never thought I would play Glastonbury one day and here I am,” said John, who turned to the audience, visibly moved, to thank them for making him “feel so happy” and for “52 years of incredible love and loyalty”. .
