Madrid (EFE).- The general elections in Spain will be held on July 23, during the summer holidays for many Spaniards.
Are you going to be at your usual address on that date? If not, these are the deadlines and steps you must meet to request a vote by mail.
Deadlines and application
Voting by mail can be requested until July 13 at any Post Office or electronically on the Correos website, without the need to go to an office in person.
To do this you will have to authenticate your identity with the electronic ID or with a valid digital certificate.
The deadline for depositing the envelope with the vote at the Post Office will end on July 20.
Procedure
You must pick up the application form at the Post Office or submit the application to vote by mail via the web with your electronic ID or a valid digital certificate.
On the form you have to indicate the postal address to which you want the electoral documentation to be sent: it can be your home, your place of work or a post office box.
The Electoral Census Office will send you the necessary documentation to vote to the indicated address as of July 3.
Once you have received the documentation, choose the ballot paper and place it in the voting envelope (or do not include the ballot paper if you decide to vote blank).
Next, insert the voting envelope and the certificate of registration in the census inside the envelope on which the address of your polling station is written.
Do not include any document proving your identity inside the voting envelope because, in this case, your vote will be considered invalid by the table.
Take this envelope to a Post Office, where you will have to identify yourself with your DNI or a similar document, and send it by free certified mail before July 20.
If you cannot go in person to deliver the documentation, you will have to grant an authorization for another person to deposit it, accompanied by a photocopy of your ID or similar document and signed by you.
Can I change my mind and vote in person?
No.
If you apply to vote by mail and your application is accepted, you cannot vote in person at your polling station on July 23.
Who can request it?
Voters residing in Spain.
Also voters residing abroad who are temporarily in Spain, with the right to vote in the elections called.
It cannot be requested by voters residing in Spain who are temporarily abroad, nor by voters residing abroad who request it from their country of residence.
