A Coruña, Jul 6 (EFE).- Ecologistas en Acción has placed a cork stopper in a pipe at the San Finx mine, in Lousame (A Coruña), through which discharges with “high concentrations of heavy metals” came out. according to the activists in a statement.
The environmental organization has sued the Xunta to revoke the authorization to empty the tungsten mine granted in February because, they have warned, “it would lead to an acid drainage discharge of almost one billion liters per year” from a mine that is seven kilometers from the Muros y Noia estuary.
A dozen activists from Ecologistas en Acción have entered the mining facilities to place a large cork in the mine’s settling pond to warn “not only of the current contamination but also of the contamination that is coming with the new authorization of discharge granted by the Xunta”.
The regional platform against the discharges of San Finx summons this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. a mobilization in the mine to protest against the discharges.
