From more to less, after two faultless sets and an irregular third, Carlos Alcaraz withdrew the Frenchman and far exceeded and with his credentials intact in his debut in this championship.
The doubts and unknowns regarding his physical condition, with that right thigh that he has covered with a bandage during the days prior to the tournament, were not put to the test by a run-down Chardy who used his protected ranking status to give himself one last tribute.
Alcaraz after his Wimbledon debut: “I’m a lucky boy”
The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz affirmed this Tuesday, after beating the French Jeremy Chardy in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament, that he considers himself a “lucky” boy to feel the love of the public in all the places where he plays.
“I played very well at the start of the match and in the third set he showed his level. I am very happy to have played today at the level I have been at, said Alcaraz after the match in which he won.
“It is very nice to play here. I have many good memories of playing on this track last year. I am very lucky to live this experience, to feel love everywhere I go”, added the Murcian tennis player at the foot of the court.
