València, Jul 3 (EFE).- The prosecutor demands that the reviewable permanent prison be applied to the man accused of killing a child in a fire. He is accused of having caused a fire in a house on Avenida Malvarrosa in Valencia in December 2020 in which a 3-year-old boy died and his mother and his two brothers, also minors (8 and 6), were injured. years).
A popular jury judges the accused, a 49-year-old man who has been in prison for these events since December 21, 2020, starting this Monday.
As detailed by the prosecutor in his indictment, to which EFE has had access, the defendant had been a woman’s sentimental partner for more than 20 years and they had a child in common.
Coexistence had been interrupted on several occasions due to disagreements between them and in periods of separation the woman traveled from Murcia to Valencia, her hometown, and lived with her mother and other relatives at the home on Avenida Malvarrosa that was set on fire.
The defendant’s sentimental partner decided to separate and definitively abandon the defendant in November 2020 and moved to live at the home in Valencia, but the following month she moved with her family to Catarroja, hiding this circumstance from the defendant.
On December 9, this family left some furniture piled up on the fourth floor of the building, to be taken away at a later time.
The following day the defendant traveled from San Javier (Murcia) to Valencia, and went to this address thinking that his ex was still living there, always according to the prosecutor’s indictment.
Accused of killing a child in a fire
“He arrived around 12:30 p.m., remained in the vicinity observing the movements, and in the following hours he decided to take revenge on his partner. Around 7:00 p.m., he entered the building, went up to the 4th floor and set fire to a sofa and other furniture, causing a large fire that spread through the interior of the building and caused dense smoke that rose through the stairwell to the upper floor.
At the time of the fire, the house in which the defendant thought his ex lived was occupied by another woman with her three children, ages 8, 6 and 3.
In addition to the reviewable permanent prison, the prosecutor claims compensation for damages, moral damages and injuries, specifically 200,000 euros for the parents of the deceased minor, and 25,000 euros for each brother.
For injuries, different amounts ranging between 660 and 27,200 euros, in addition to 96,305 euros for damage to the property and 46,540 euros for health care for the victims.

The defendant’s defense attorney, Francisco Bernat, explained this Monday that the defendant has never acknowledged responsibility for the events and even denies that he entered the building.
“He admits that he was in front of the building for several hours waiting for his ex to come down,” details this lawyer, who insists that his client is a man who has never been involved in any incident related to sexist violence.
“The police have inquired about the alleged motives of my client, but not about other alleged interests in doing harm, and the culprit in our opinion is still on the street,” adds the defense lawyer.
