Valencia (EFE).- The City Council of Albaida (Valencia) has informed the Civil Guard of the incidents that occurred on Saturday night on the facade of the consistory when a resident of the town ripped off the LGTBI flags and placed a pre-constitutional flag.
The mayor of Albaida, Alejandro Quilis, from Compromís, has told EFE that the Civil Guard is processing the complaint for a possible hate crime by a neighbor in his 50s who has been identified.
Minor offense for climbing official building
The Local Police charged him with a minor infraction for climbing an official building and a serious one for disobedience.
Quilis has indicated that due to his position as mayor he will have to go to ratify the complaint for the events that, according to his account, occurred between 10:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. last Saturday.
That night a man went to the Local Police checkpoint, located in front of the town hall, to express that he wanted to hang the Francoist flag on the façade of the municipal building, just as the LGTBI flags were hung, and the agents told him that it was not possible and that the flag that he wanted to place is unconstitutional.
Despite this, the man assured that he was going to do it “anyway” and placed the pre-constitutional flag in one of the side windows of the main door.
Some youths removed the flag
Some young people who were passing through the area saw this flag and removed it, but the man placed it again, this time under the flagpoles of the official flags of the Valencian Community, Spain and the European Union, and went up to the balcony to tear off the two flags. LGTBI who hung from it, taking advantage of the fact that the agents had gone out to perform a service.
This man acknowledged to the Local Police that it was he who had carried out this action and identified himself with his ID, stating that he had warned of his intentions.
He is a resident of Albaida in his 50s who is “openly ultra-conservative”, as he himself advertises on his social networks, according to the mayor.
Alejandro Quilis has pointed out that it is the first time that in twelve years of progressive government in the municipality, in which claims have been made for the rights of the LGTBI collective and on the occasion of Women’s Day, an act of this kind has been carried out. guy.
The City Council will replace the LGTBI flags on its balcony between this Monday and tomorrow Tuesday, since the torn ones are part of the proceedings that have been transferred to the Civil Guard.
