Seville, (EFE).- The number of births in Andalusia amounted to 62,669 in 2022, 4.5 percent less than the previous year, while 78,535 deaths were registered, 1 percent less, with which the natural growth is negative in 15,866 people, the fifth consecutive since 1996.
The Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia publishes this Friday the advance of the data of the Statistics of the Natural Movement of the Population (MNP) corresponding to the year 2022, which shows, however, an increase of 26 percent compared to 2021 in the case of marriages.
In the case of births, all the Andalusian provinces presented relative decreases compared to the previous year, although Huelva stands out as the one that decreased the most, with 9.6% and Granada the least with 0.7%.
By gender, the percentage of male births (51.5%) was higher than that of female births, a circumstance that was repeated in all the provinces except Huelva (49.3%).
The number of births to Spanish mothers was 53,394, 5.8% less than the previous year, while that of foreign mothers was 9,275, 3.1% more than in 2021.
More deaths in men
Births to foreign mothers represented 14.8% of all births, a slightly higher percentage than the analogous one in 2021 (13.7%) and by provinces, the highest percentage of births to foreign mothers occurred in Almería (34.9 %), followed by Malaga with 21.6%.
Regarding marital status, the number of births to unmarried mothers (32,957) decreased by 5.1% compared to 2021 and accounted for 52.6% of all births (52.9% in 2021), a percentage that reached to 56.9% in Cádiz and where Jaén had the lowest percentage, with 44.9%.
Of the 78,535 deaths in 2022, a total of 40,145 (51.1%) corresponded to men: 3,109 were people of foreign nationality (4%), although their distribution by age group is very different from deaths of Spanish nationality, according to the report.
Among people with Spanish nationality, 21.2% of deaths took place before the age of 70, however this percentage rises to 39.8% among people with foreign nationality, mainly due to the fact that this group has a structure younger population.
Highest number of marriages
Regarding the number of marriages registered in 2022 in Andalusia, the report indicates that there were 33,903 (26% more than in 2021), of which 3,912 marriages had a spouse of foreign nationality (11.5%), 3,341 corresponding to marriages of mixed couples between Spaniards and foreigners.
Of the total number of marriages, 32,803 were celebrated between people of different sex (25.8% more than the previous year), 71.2% being exclusively civil, with the highest percentage in Malaga (80.4%) and the lowest in Jaen (53.2%).
In the year 2022, 1,100 same-sex marriages were celebrated, 32.1% more than the previous year, of which 57.3% were marriages between women. EFE
