Valladolid (EFE).- Each Castilian-Leonese person consumed an average of 610.59 kilos or liters of food and beverages in 2022, below the 651 of the previous year, with also lower per capita spending in that chapter, with 1,644.89 euros, compared to 1,652.94 in 2021, and the head was placed in consumption of meat, pastries and milk.
This is how it appears in the report on food consumption in Spain for 2022 from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) presented this Thursday by the head of the department, Luis Planas, and according to data from 2021, collected by EFE.
The Castilian-Leonese remain in fourth position in the regional group in terms of consumption and spending, only behind the Balearic Islands, which with 681.28 kilos or liters consume one hundred more than the national average; the canaries and catalans; and above the average, which was 583.48 kilos or liters of food and beverages per Spaniard in 2022, with a per capita expenditure of 1,597.58 euros.
Madrid is the community with the lowest per capita consumption, with an intake of 524.55 kg/year-end, the equivalent of consuming about 60 kilos or liters less food than the national average.
Meat consumption: 46.25 kilos per inhabitant
The 2022 consumption panel shows that the citizens of Castilla y León were the ones who ate the highest meat intake at the end of the year 2022, with an amount of 46.25 kilograms per person, exceeding the average per person for the total Spain located in 39.07 kilos per person and year. On the contrary, the Cantabrians have the smallest meat intake per person and year, of 31.34 kilos.
The Castilian-Leonese were the second in consumption of fresh meat, with 34.4 kilos per capita, only behind the 34.6 of the Navarrese; with 5.1 kilos of beef (3.8 national); 11.6 of chicken (10.5), 1.6 kilos of sheep/goats (0.9), and 11.4 of pork (8.6) -the highest consumption of this type in the autonomous community- with 0. 8 kilos of rabbit (0.6).
In transformed meat, the consumption per Castilian-Leonese was 11 kilos (10.5).
Third parties in consumption of fresh fruit: 94.23 kilos
The inhabitants of Castilla y León were the third in terms of per capita consumption of fresh fruit, with 94.73 kilos, only behind the Basques (94.7) and Navarrese (108.72), compared to 80, 67 national average.
Regarding fresh vegetables, consumption was slightly lower than the national average, with 49.95 kilos per Castilian-Leonese (50.22 national), with Navarrese with the highest per capita intake of fresh vegetables at the end of the year with an amount which amounts to 64.83 kilograms per person.
Egg consumption: 8.3 kilos
Each Castilian-Leonese person consumed an average of 8.3 kilos of eggs in 2022, the national average being 8.11, with Navarrese and Basques in the lead with 10.49 and 10.63 kilos, respectively.
According to the aforementioned report, those residing in the Principality of Asturias and Castilla y León had the highest intake in the dairy sector, with an amount of 134.77 and 123.90 kiloliters per person and year respectively, compared to 101 .08 national average.
28.3 liters were of whole bottled milk for each Castilian-Leonese, 38.2 semi-skimmed, 21 skimmed or 8.1 lactose-free, among other types.
In cheese, consumption was 6.5 kilos, below the 7.5 national average, with 11.1 from each canary in the lead.
Despite being a land of legumes, consumption was below the average in Castilla y León with 3.13 kilos, compared to the 3.34 national average, and far from the 5 in Cantabria, the 4.18 in the Balearic Islands. and the 4.17 of Catalonia.
Consumption of bread was above average (27.94), with 32.73 kilos per Castilian-Leonese, the sixth highest figure, led by Asturians with 36.23 kilos each.
As for pasta, each Castilian-Leonese person consumed 3.49 kilos, below the national average of 4.12, with 5.50 for each Catalan in the lead.
The community was also below the 26.42 kilos of potatoes that each Spaniard consumed on average in 2022, with 23.84, far from the 29.86 of Asturians.
The fifth in consumption of fresh fish
Castilla y León was the fifth community in consumption of fresh fish, with 10.5 kilos per inhabitant, behind Asturians (12), Basques, Galicians and Navarre in a year in which the national consumption average was 8 kilos per capita .
The 2022 consumption panel places consumers in Castilla y León above the average for oil and in sixth place with 12.19 liters per capita (10.30 nationally).
In the case of olive oil, Castilla y León, with 5.4 percent of the population of Spain, consumes 6.4 percent of the total, with an average of 4.3 liters per capita (3.6 nationally). .
Galicia, Castilla y León, the Balearic Islands, Aragon and Asturias are also confirmed as the most intensive in the purchase of sunflower oil. In addition, its inhabitants also have a per capita consumption higher than the national average, with 4.9 liters per capita for every Castilian-Leonese.
In rice, the most intensive communities in this purchase are the archipelagos and the territories located on the Mediterranean coast and the Principality of Asturias at the end of the year 2022.
And those that purchase less rice based on what would be expected due to its extension in population are the communities of Castilla y León, La Rioja, Comunidad Foral de Navarra, Extremadura or Aragón, among others.
Castilla y León bought 4.14 percent of the total rice purchased in Spain in that year in 2022 with a per capita consumption of 2.97 kilos (3.83 national), with Valencia’s 4.88 in the lead.
Less wine and beer consumption than average
As for drinks, Castilla y León bought 4.53 percent, below what it represents in population, with just over 112 liters per person, below the 138 average per capita in Spain and far from 224. of the Balearic Islands and 217 of the Canaries, or the 168 of Murcia.
Wine consumption was 5.8 liters per capita in the Community in 2022, with a lower purchase volume, 4.3 percent of the total, than the 5.4 percent represented by its population, and below of the national average that reached 7.3 liters.
Catalonia is the most intensive autonomous community in wine consumption with respect to its population average, since it exceeds it by 38.0%, and has the highest per capita consumption with 10.7 liters per person per year.
The average beer consumption was 20.3 liters per Spaniard in 2022, with 16.5 in the case of Castilla y León, which represented 4.3 percent of the total distributed in Spain, below its population weight. . And for non-alcoholic beer, the national per capita average was 3.3 liters, with 2.7 in the case of each Castilian-Leonese person.
The average consumption of bottled water per Spaniard was 64.3 liters, with 54.9 in Castilla y León, in a classification led by the Canaries and the Balearic Islands, which more than doubled the average per capita consumption of a Spanish individual, with an intake of 146.5 and 127.9 liters, respectively.
Leading the way in packaged pastries and pastries
In other consumptions, such as pastries and packaged pastries, Castilla la Mancha, the Community of Madrid and Castilla y León, are the Autonomous Communities with the most intensive purchases in this category. Specifically, per capita consumption in Castilla y León was 6.26 kilos, at the national head and exceeding 5.48 for each Spaniard in 2022.
In addition, each Castilian-Leonese person consumed 1.57 kilos of cereals last year, compared to the national average of 1.58, in a classification led by the Balearic Islands with 2.14 kilos; and 6.10 for cookies, also above the national average of 4.93 kilos.
According to the study, the Canary Islands, Galicia and the Principality of Asturias are consolidated as the most intensive in the purchase of coffee and infusions, with Castilla y León with 1.75 kilos per capita, above 1.8 for each Spaniard.
The Castilian-Leonese consumed more cocoa and chocolate than the national average, which was 3.28 kilos, with 3.70, only behind the Galicians (4.24) and the Basques, Cantabrians and Asturians.
