An exception to this situation is Santa Cruz de Bezana, the only Cantabrian municipality governed since the constitution of the municipalities by a team made up of PP and Vox, which has hung the LGTBI flag on its balcony on June 28 as a “reminder” that this municipality will continue to “watch over” the rights of all.
This has been stated in a press release by its mayor, Carmen Pérez (PP), who has rejected the criticism that has been made in previous days for the withdrawal of that flag that the previous mayor, the socialist Alberto García Onandía, placed on the occasion of of the constitution of the city council on June 17.
Carmen Pérez has added that the intention of her government team “was always to install this banner on June 28, the date on which Pride Day is celebrated throughout the world.”
“The fact of hanging this banner is intended to be a sign of the respect that we in the Santa Cruz de Bezana City Council feel for the fundamental rights of all people and a reminder that we will continue to ensure that none of them is undermined,” he stressed. .
