Logroño, (EFE).- The president of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, said this Wednesday, after being elected to office, that “there will be no stoppage when it comes to governing this community” and, as of next 30 , when he is scheduled to take office, “there is no time to lose.”
This has been pronounced in statements to journalists in the La Rioja Parliament, where he has been elected president of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja for the XII Legislature, with the 17 votes of his party, the PP; compared to 12 from the PSOE, 2 from Vox and 2 from Podemos-IU.
Chaplain has stressed that he is a person “very scrupulous with the times”, since, once he has been elected president, the Presidency of the regional Parliament has to communicate it to the King and the forecast is that on the 30th he will take office in San Millán de la Cogolla, where the Statute of Autonomy was signed.
He added that he likes “to have things planned, to do everything when it’s time, but we need from minute one and almost from minute one to get to work from the Government, continue to serve the people of La Rioja and face problems that we have on the table and It will be as soon as possible.”
Among the most urgent issues, Capellán has cited the situation of the vineyard, due to the proximity of the harvest, but any that arises on a day-to-day basis, once he takes effective possession, attending to each sector, as well as unforeseen events in the electoral program , such as dealing with the situation generated by the recent floods.
There can be no stop to rule
“For citizens -he has had an impact- there cannot be a break when it comes to governing; the Public Administration works every day and, therefore, our commitment, immediately, is to work with a great team of professionals to continue working for La Rioja and try to give that good government, which is our commitment to the people of La Rioja”.
Regarding Vox, he said that the people of La Rioja “have spoken” in these past elections, they have given an absolute majority to the PP and have expressed that they want “a stable government and that is what we are going to comply with”.
He has indicated that he has not replied to the groups in the second session of the investiture because he understands that his function was to explain his future government program.
Capellán has stressed that he accepts the position with “responsibility, moderation, tranquility, commitment, enthusiasm and determination to contribute, with the whole of La Rioja society, to build a better future for all”.
Regarding his inauguration in San Millán de la Cogolla, which is recovered after his predecessor, the socialist Concha Andreu, did it before the Parliament of La Rioja, he has said that it is a special place for him because in San Millán it was signed the Statute of Autonomy and is a World Heritage Site, as the cradle of Spanish.
He hopes that the national president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, can attend the event, although “it will depend on the agendas.”
He has also said that, for him, it is a “symbolic” act, which he wants to share with the greatest number of people from all the municipalities and civil society in a place that “gives us memory and history” and, from there, ” to work, work and work, without rest because it is the challenge I have with the people of La Rioja and we are not going to fail them in that”.
