Madrid (EFE).- The Ministry of Equality presents this Tuesday its Rainbow Recognitions, which in this third edition reward former Prime Minister José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero and the main LGTBI+ and trans associations in Spain for “making visible, supporting and defending” the rights of the collective
The department led by Irene Montero has decided to award one of these awards to Zapatero “for his historic work in recognizing equality for LGTBI people”, specifically for the approval of equal marriage that under his government made Spain the third country in the world to allow same-sex weddings in 2005.

Equality also wanted to highlight the work of the FELGTBI+, Chrysallis and Fundación Triángulo associations, as well as that of the activist and president of the Trans Platform, Mar Cambrollé, whom it acknowledges for their “collaboration” in the elaboration of the approved Trans and LGTBI Law last February.
Among the other winners are actors such as Ander Puig, popular for playing Nico, a trans boy, in the sixth season of the series “Elite”, or Patricia Galván, whom the ministry recognizes for her claim to women’s rights. social minorities through humor and theater.
The names of writers Alana Portero and Nando López, as well as singer-songwriter María Peláe and Camino Baró, an intersex activist, also stand out in the list of winners.
The Olympe law firm, specialized in LGTBI rights, the lesbian podcast Maldito Bollodrama and the Institut Català de la Salut’s Trànsit service, focused on accompanying and caring for trans people, will also receive recognition.
Equality delivers these awards at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid at a gala organized on the occasion of International LGTBI Pride Day, which is celebrated on June 28.
