Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The new president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, addressed the camera after taking office, in a speech in which she praised “the maturity” of Canarian society for having “Changed the course of your destiny when there is no progress in the welfare state.”
Astrid Pérez, elected with the votes of CC, PP, ASG and AHI, has said that she is aware that she does not have the unanimity of Parliament, but she does have its “majority will”, and has promised to try to “join wills”. and to guarantee the normal functioning of the tasks of the camera.
The president has expressed her personal commitment to her land, to Canarian society and to the island of Lanzarote, her constituency.
He stressed that it is the first time that a deputy from Lanzarote has reached the presidency of Parliament and he has thanked his family and his party for their support to have arrived.
He has promised to promote from the Parliament Table “the general interest and institutional loyalty”, above party interests or ideological issues.
“This Parliament makes visible the change in society”, he stated before referring to “the maturity” of that society “to change the course of our destiny when there is no progress in the welfare state” in the Autonomous Community.
“Citizens expect us to work hard to change and improve their lives and to abandon the worst statistical data in the country,” he assured.
For Astrid Pérez, the Parliament has many challenges in these times of change and uncertainty and is committed to defending social justice, the uniqueness of the islands, solidarity, progress and the unity of the archipelago.
He has affirmed that Parliament must be “the true center of politics” and has defended the search for consensus and agreements, “favoring moderation and mutual respect”. EFE
