Valverde (El Hierro) (EFE).- Javier Armas, from the Agrupación Herreña Independiente, has taken office this Monday as president of the Cabildo de El Hierro, a position that he will occupy until the debate on the motion of censure that has also been presented by the PSOE, Herreña Assembly and IU-Reunir Canarias.
During his speech at the constitution plenary session of the El Hierro corporation, Armas, who obtained four directors in the last May elections, did not allude to the motion of censure and did stress that he has made every effort to reach an agreement with the rest of the political groups that has already materialized with the PP.
He has added that he is keeping negotiations open with the rest of the political forces to reach a governance agreement and has thanked the support received by the people of El Hierro.
The outgoing president and proponent of the motion of no confidence, Alpidio Armas, of the PSOE, took stock of the management of his mandate, highlighted the health emergency due to the covid and the management carried out due to the increase in prices, especially fuel.
Arms, who will chair the Cabildo again if the motion of no confidence wins, has said that he assumes the cost of the motion of no confidence but considers that it is the best thing for the people of El Hierro.
He has also pointed out that his objective is to give continuity to all the projects started in the past term, in which the PSOE governed the corporation in agreement with the Herreña Assembly.
Armas has valued the inclusion in the future government group of Amado Carballo, sole director of IU-Reunir Canarias.
David Cabrera, from the Herreña Assembly, has affirmed that the motion of censure is presented out of responsibility towards the Herreños and because it was “the only possible agreement that could be reached.”
Once the Cabildo was constituted, the proponents of the motion of censure registered the initiative, which will be debated within the next few days.
In the May 28 elections, the Agrupación Herreña Indindependiente obtained four councilors (Javier Armas, Asunción Amaro, Juan Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Armas); the PSOE obtained three (Alpidio Armas, Ana González and Jesús Pérez Quintero); the Herrera Assembly removed three (David Cabrera, Emilio Hernández and Ana González); the PP obtained two representatives (Rubén Armiche and Juan Manuel García Casañas) while Amado Carballo was elected by IU-Reunir Canarias.
During the plenary session, the representative of the PP, Rubén Armiche, stressed that it would be important to reach a governance agreement to guarantee the activity of economic agents and the development of the island. EFE
