Berlin, Jun 23 (EFE) in second most voted force.
If legislative elections were held this Sunday in Germany, the Christian-Democratic opposition would take 29% of the vote, the AfD with 19% and the Social Democrats of Chancellor Olaf Scholz would be relegated to third place with 17%, according to the poll prepared. by the Infratest Dimap institute.
Just three weeks ago, the Social Democrats and the far-right were tied for second place, but the AfD has since continued its precipitous rise to record values in the ten years since its founding in 2013.
The left, under the threshold to access the Bundestag
According to the survey released this Friday, the current government coalition partners, the Greens and the Liberals, would respectively obtain 15 and 6%, while La Izquierda, with 4%, would remain below the threshold necessary to access the Bundestag (the lower house of Parliament).
52% of the citizens interviewed were in favor of maintaining what is known as the “sanitary cordon” -that is, the cooperation of the rest of the political forces to prevent the access of the AfD to the institutions-, while a third spoke in against.
Opposition to this practice is higher in the “Länder” of the former East Germany (40% reject it) and in the age group between 35 and 49 years (around 45%), while among those over 65 years old, 58% are in favor of maintaining said “cord”.
Polls commissioned this week by other media show similar results, with the AfD oscillating between 18 and 20% in voting intentions.
The head of the parliamentary group of Christian Democrats in the Bundestag, Thorsten Frei, today attributed the results to discontent with the coalition headed by Scholz.
For his part, the Social Democrat co-chair Lars Klingbeil assumed part of the responsibility in an intervention on the private channel “NTV” and indicated that the citizens “want to send a signal” since the disputes within the coalition have made them feel ” unsafe”.
However, he warned of the consequences of voting for the extreme right as a manifestation of discontent.
