As RMC Sport maintains this Friday, the situation of the attacker is currently the hottest issue in the Parisian offices along with the latest details of the arrival of the Spanish coach Luis Enrique to the bench, who are focusing on outlining who his assistants will be.
The situation is not so clear
While everyone assumes that the former Spain coach will sit on the bench at the Parque de los Príncipes, Mbappé’s situation does not seem so clear.
Since the world runner-up reiterated in writing to the club his intention not to make the extra year of contract that they had agreed to last summer effective, the positions of both parties are at the opposite end.
The player has said in public that he will play for PSG next season, thus fulfilling the second year of the contract he signed and for which he will receive around 150 million euros, bonuses included.
The club, for its part, remains silent in public, but has privately activated all pressure measures to seek a way out that does not mean losing its most important player and a high financial figure at the same time.
Problems in PSG’s accounts if Mbappé stays
In the Parque de los Príncipes the accounts do not come out. If Mbappé continues this year, in addition to his very high salary, they would not receive any compensation for his transfer.
PSG seems resigned to the fact that Mbappé is not the key piece of their sporting project for the next few years, as they had planned, so they want to turn that page and start designing the team of the future.
The sports manager, Luis Campos, is working on the arrival of the Portuguese Bernardo Silva and has failed to convince the French striker Marcus Thuram, who is ending his contract with Monchengladbach.
A personal friend of Mbappé, with whom he shares origin (both have grown up in the Paris region), generation (Thuram is 25 years old, one more than Mbappé) and national team, his refusal to sign for PSG has been interpreted as a sign.
The French striker could have perceived that his friend would not continue for a long time and, in these circumstances, bet on other destinations, which the newspaper L’Équipe places in Italy, with Inter or Milan in the lead.
Real Madrid appears as a priority destination
In the case of Mbappé, Real Madrid appears as the priority destination, both this season (although the white club says that its transfer campaign is closed) and next.
It remains to be seen if the final arrival of Luis Enrique can unblock the situation.
The Spanish coach will find several pressing issues, but none of the stature of Mbappé, who will undoubtedly determine the future of the entity.
Another one that he will have to deal with is that of Neymar, who was on the starting grid but who can hold onto the club by the hand of his former coach at Barcelona between 2013 and 2016.
At 31 years old, the most expensive player in history (222 million euros) seems to have run out of support in the French capital, cornered by his mediocre sporting performance and by scandals off the pitch.
Neither within the club nor in the stands does he already have many defenders, unless Luis Enrique becomes his main bulwark.
