Madrid, June 22 (EFE).- The Spanish Carolina Marín – Olympic, world and European badminton champion; the football clubs Sevilla FC and Celta de Vigo; the presidents of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM) and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), Francisco Blázquez and Gonzaga Escauriaza; or the Paralympic athletes Adiaratou Iglesias and Ricardo Ten; were some of those recognized at the award ceremony for the Royal Order of Sports Merit (ROMD) plaques and medals.
The event, held in the Auditorium of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEF), was finally unable to attend Miquel Iceta, Minister of Culture and Sports, due to a personal matter. Víctor Francos, president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), excused his absence and congratulated the winners. “You are commitment, demand, effort, respect, teamwork, coexistence… you are many things. In the large number of values that your commitment to sport contains, you can find what we aspire to as a country and as a society, sport should be a reflection of the country we want ”, he indicated.
“Thank you for ensuring that sport has significance at a national and international level, that it is one of our main hallmarks of identity in the world. The CSD exists by and for you. You encourage us to establish measures for the benefit of Spanish sport. Keep pressing, pushing, asking. This is good because it doesn’t let us relax and makes us alert to the needs of your activity”, he declared.
“This government places sport at the center. Our career has achieved great milestones such as the long-awaited reform of the sports law. We have allocated unprecedented resources to Spanish sport. We will not cease in our efforts to defend sport as a key element in achieving an active, fair, inclusive and egalitarian society”, he stated.
“We will continue expanding rights, protecting talent, promoting the development of the sports industry and extending the multiple dimensions of sport throughout the Spanish territory,” he said.
“You are a pride for Spain. I ask both the youngest and some veterans to continue pursuing the objectives with enthusiasm, effort and confidence. If you have shown us anything it is that dreams can come true, in Spanish sport the impossible only takes a little longer” added Francos.
