Madrid (EFE) If he fails, he proposes a three-way format.
In addition, the PP accepts the debate with the rest of the political forces, but asks, together with Sumar and Vox, for the ERC, EH Bildu or the PNV to be accommodated, so as not to “mislead citizens about what they actually vote for”, given the role ” protagonist” of these formations in governance.
This has been proposed by the institutional deputy secretary of the PP, Esteban González Pons, in a letter sent to the PSOE Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán, which responds to the Socialists’ proposal to hold a weekly face-to-face between Sánchez and Feijóo.
“We accept a face to face with Pedro Sánchez if the candidate Díaz delegates to him the representation of the government wing that she directs,” says Pons, who then adds that to “facilitate” the “internal situation within the Government” the PP would accept a three-way debate, similar to the one that took place in Germany in 2021.
The PSOE rejects the formula proposed by Feijóo
The PSOE has criticized the offer since it ensures that Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not directly accept a face-to-face with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, as he recalls that four communication groups have requested.
Sources from Ferraz have assured that the PP’s offer “is not an acceptance of what the media have requested” and added that “it is not the PP who determines the debates” but rather the convening communication groups, which in addition to face-to-face face between Sánchez and Feijóo have offered debates with the four main national formations.
“We notice the same eagerness (of the PP) to look for pretexts and avoid debates at all costs. We reiterate that the PSOE accepts all the debates that the communication groups have requested, and that the PP must decide which ones it accepts and which ones it rejects and we will immediately negotiate with them the technical issues of the debates”, they point out.
Sumar accepts the debate to three
For his part, Sumar has accepted the three-way debate proposed by the popular candidate because he considers it more similar to the Spain “of today” than the face-to-face PSOE-PP proposed by Pedro Sánchez.
Sources from Yolanda Díaz’s platform have indicated this Tuesday that Sumar will hold “the necessary debates”, in reaction to the PP’s approach. “We are going to carry out a positive campaign,” the same sources have pointed out. On Twitter, Sumar has also maintained that “a three-way debate is more like today’s Spain than the old two-party system.”
Sumar proposed yesterday a four-person debate between the main candidates for the Government, debates in pairs up to a total of six and a seven-person debate between the seven largest parliamentary groups.
