In this way, the PP candidate, Borja Verea, has been imposed, for whom the eleven supports of his group have been insufficient, for which reason he will be in opposition in this term.
In this way, the local government of the Galician capital will have 8 councilors of the 25 that the municipal corporation has; the six from the BNG and the two from Compostela Aberta, whose councilor, María Rozas, will be deputy mayor; waiting to achieve support during the term, mainly from the six socialist councillors, who have refused to become part of a tripartite government.
The act was one of the first to be held in Galician cities, whose takeovers are scheduled to start at noon; although it was not the first in Galicia, since the town of Sober (Lugo) held its constitution plenary session at midnight, as is customary in recent mandates.
The new mayoress of the Galician capital, “nationalist and feminist”, has had an impact, promised her position and committed herself to the rights of the residents, “for the women who paved the way and for those who will come”.
In his first speech, Sanmartín assured that “politics is only justified if the aim is to make people happier” and he offered a speech full of “love, trust and hope”.

Sanmartín has stressed that Santiago is a city with history and also has to be “a municipality with a future”, for which it has promised to launch a pact for conscious tourism, so that the city ceases to be “a theme park” and once again become a place for its inhabitants.
“We cannot be the capital of tourism and see people experiencing basic needs, that is why we will bet on social policies”, defended Sanmartín.
The new mayoress has defended that her project involves dialogue, meetings and collective projects; a project based on transparency and honesty, has influenced, in a speech in which he has had memories for Ánxel Casal, mayor shot by the Francoists, María Miramontes, Camilo Díaz Baliño and Isaac Díaz Pardo, among many other figures.
And above all, he has mentioned Rosalía de Castro, who will be the central axis of a project that serves as a platform for Galician culture and a brand of identity for Santiago.
One of the “priorities” will be for the city to have “homes to live in” and also for Santiago to achieve economic growth in other sectors, such as industry, to create quality employment and generate wealth in the town.
In his speech, he proposed a pact for the historic city, to turn around a situation of drift in recent years, because if the historic center is good for those who live in it, it will also be good for those who visit it.
In any case, he has assured that the city is “much more” than the historic almond, for which reason he has committed all his effort and commitment to the neighborhoods of the new zone and especially to the rural one, since the municipality is as much his as of the inhabitants of the center.
“A new time begins and we are going for everything. Santiago deserves a bright future ”, he has concluded it.
After the institutional act, accompanied by the national spokesperson for the BNG, Ana Pontón, the new mayoress plans to go out to the Plaza del Obradoiro with the baton to make a symbolic delivery of the position to the citizens.
