Washington (EFE).- A group of US Republican legislators launched this Wednesday a new investigation against the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, for negligence in the performance of his duty on the border with Mexico.
The objective of these investigations, as indicated by Congressman Clay Higgins at a press conference, is to obtain the removal of the Democratic politician or his own resignation.
“America is not safe and your job is to make it so. It has failed. That is breach of duty. We are going to hold him accountable,” added the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Mark Green, in the same statement to the media.
Mayorkas blamed for multiple border crises
The “disaster” experienced on the border with Mexico, in his opinion, with the “massive” crossing of illegal immigrants or fentanyl trafficking, is a consequence of the reduction of border patrol resources and the elimination of controls.
“Mayorkas’s policies are responsible,” Green said, according to which the secretary of Homeland Security has allowed the cartels to enter the United States and has also caused a “humanitarian crisis like never before.”
“And what about the 10,000 Chinese citizens who crossed into the United States illegally throughout this fiscal year. Today begins the process to delve into all those details”, stressed the legislator.
It is not the first time that Mayorkas has been in the crosshairs of congressmen from the Republican party.
The legislators had already promised to investigate the management of the border with Mexico last November, before assuming control of the House of Representatives in January, and last February they presented two resolutions to subject him to impeachment also for negligence in both immigration and immigration matters. in terms of drug trafficking.
Last week the Department of Homeland Security reported that since Title 42 was lifted at the end of May, the regulations that under the pretext of the pandemic allowed immigrants to be expeditiously expelled at the border, arrests there have fallen by 70%. %.
