Mexico City (EFE).- The iconic band Los Tigres del Norte is a benchmark for many regional Mexican music artists who today cross the country’s borders. For them, with a 50-year career and no intention of leaving the stage, being an inspiration “feels very nice,” they say in an interview with EFE.
“We are very happy that we are an example group to follow. It feels very nice, since we have been working for more than 50 years and we have made our music known, which is northern music”, says Eduardo Hernández, one of the brothers that make up the group.
“We feel very flattered that the youth pay attention to what one does”, he deepens.
In recent years, regional Mexican music has managed to find a place in the charts, reaching the top positions worldwide.
Artists like Grupo Frontera, Banda MS, Natanael Cano or Peso Pluma already sound in the homes of many countries around the world.
But this is the result of decades of work by groups like Los Tigres del Norte, who confess that when they began their career, in 1968, norteño music was highly reviled.
Even so, they managed to win over their audience, which today is diverse and includes adults and young people. Even of the latter, some who decided to dedicate themselves to music thanks to them.
That is why they feel proud, they say, of having opened a door.
“That this youth with their songs also have success, they deserve it, and hopefully in the future there will be more colleagues who can interpret music,” adds Eduardo.

And it is precisely the love for their audience that has taken them so far, as they report that they always listen and try to deduce what their followers might like, as is the case with these concerts that they will offer in the Mexican capital.
“Our followers are everything, they are the bosses of bosses. They are the ones who set the tone for us, not only when we are presenting ourselves, but also when we get off the stage, when we think about what we want to record, what message we want to send them”, explains another of the brothers, Luis Hernández.
He goes into depth that, in addition, when they spend free time they also run into “fans”, who approach them as if they were part of the family, a family in which music has been the protagonist for decades.
The constant expansion of Los Tigres del Norte
Los Tigres del Norte have dared to experiment with other genres, including rock, although always maintaining the northern essence.
Thanks to this, they expanded in markets that have nothing to do with the Mexican regional, but where they are accepted for their musical quality and the stories of their corridos, such as “Smuggling and betrayal” or “Jefe de jefes”.
In addition, they adapt their lyrics to the moment, as they did in “Pan y miel”, which opens on Friday.
“It’s a very avant-garde song, very much in the style of how young people communicate today,” adds Luis.
After so many times that they have stepped on stages around the world, some of the five brothers -Jorge, Eduardo, Hernán, Luis and Óscar- maintain rituals that help them, they consider, to go out into the ring with desire, motivation and security.
Hernán, for example, says that every time he leaves his house he crosses himself in front of the photograph of his father, who died in 1986. With this, he asks him not only for him, but also for his brothers, whom he they stay at home and also give “a little snack” to the whole family.
They also think of their mother, whom they lost last year.
“It is important to believe in what makes you happy and in those who left you who loved you and continue to care for you from heaven,” shares Hernán.
Finally, Jorge, who confesses that he would have loved to have been able to sing along with Pedro Infante, assures that they are “anxious for them to arrive on Friday and Saturday to be at the Arena”.
