Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE) ”, but he has remarked that, despite this, they have managed to have more mayoralties and participate in more governments of medium and small municipalities.
In his first assessment of the electoral results, in which he has not managed to enter the Canarian Parliament as a deputy, Rodríguez has highlighted that NC will be able to govern in 16 or 17 municipalities of the 21 in Gran Canaria.
He has also pondered that they have advanced in the councils of Fuerteventura, going from one to three councillors, and Lanzarote, where from zero they have achieved two, in a relevant way, but most importantly, despite the fact that they have had “the soul in suspense ”, is that they have once again held the presidency of the Gran Canaria Cabildo for the third time.
“It has been a long night, more than that of 2019 (the previous elections), when we came to be third”, but he stressed that they have achieved the only president in democratic history who will govern three terms in the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales.
In Parliament they have maintained three seats on the lists of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, although they have lost the seat on the regional list, which was not in their calculations or in their analyses, and this has happened because “they have not taken into account the Spanish bloc policy that has had an impact on the territories, excluding the Basque Country and Catalonia”.
Rodríguez has stated that in these elections “the conservative and left blocs were being settled and it has had an impact where politics is expressed more clearly.”
In the progressive bloc, the PSOE has monopolized the majority of the leftist vote, but where they have resisted they will lose the government, the leader of NC has predicted, because where they have won it will be difficult to preserve the progressive government, since the right has taken a ” excellent result” that was not foreseen.
In his opinion, 28M has been a rehearsal for the general elections, a kind of primaries for the November elections, which has been clearly seen in the larger institutions, although the refuge vote has been around the PSOE.
According to Rodríguez, the irruption of Vox, which has entered the Canary Islands with force, was not foreseen, for which reason he has admitted that perhaps they have been wrong in revealing what the extreme right represents, whose vote he understands as having been theirs. rejection or rebellion, although “it is not very clear to what”, and that it has concentrated the number of young people, according to experts, he said.
NC will take stock of these results in its party bodies, so now they are focused on assessing municipal progress and in the councils of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and in Gran Canaria, the most important, he stressed.
He has downplayed the fact that he is not present in Parliament, since the fundamental things, according to Rodríguez, are “the teams, the values and the principles and that remains intact”, and they will be at the service of the progressive sector, to continue ” fighting for this land and for those of the majority whom they want to represent”.
“Despite the shift to the right of Spanish and Canarian politics, in Gran Canaria the left resist and we are clearly in the majority, and we will continue fighting; Gran Canaria is our most important cradle and it has once again shown it”, she pointed out.
The candidate re-elected president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has expressed his enormous satisfaction for having achieved the confidence of the voters to continue advancing in the eco-island model that they have outlined.
Morales has said that he has long warned of the reversal of democratic values, but this Cabildo is the “bulwark of the progressive force, capable of fighting this reversal” and will be the “spearhead” to guarantee the rights of the men and women from the island and the Canary Islands.
According to Morales, “a large part of the institutions are going to fall into the hands of the right-wing and regress in the achievements achieved in these years”, but his commitment is to continue advancing in a project based on citizen participation and economic diversification.
Morales has assured that he will defend policies of progress for the island, and that he has been congratulated by the PSOE, Augusto Hidalgo, and PP, Miguel Jorge, candidates, and that he will speak with both but understands that “they have to advance in the pact of progress for the next four years.
The NC candidate for Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pedro Quevedo, has also alluded to the irruption of Vox, which is “disgusting”, although he has stressed that the “good news is that another government majority is not possible that the left progressive” in the capital city, “there is no more mathematics”.
He has insisted on the progress achieved in the municipalities of Gran Canaria and has also referred to the fact that they have also had “displeasures”, but they will recover.
Likewise, he has agreed with Morales and Rodríguez that “the reasons for what happened are outside”, in the external polarization. EFE
