Ferrol, May 29 (EFE).- Thousands of people have accompanied the Racing de Ferrol squad and coaching staff this Monday in the celebrations for the team’s promotion to the Second Division, during which the footballers have toured the city in a convertible bus and have attended a reception at the Ferrol Town Hall.
The vehicle completed a long journey, which began at the A Gándara industrial estate and passed through the neighborhoods of Ultramar, Recimil, Esteiro, Ferrol Vello and Canido, areas where crowds of fans of the team coached by Cristóbal Parralo have gathered.
Finally, players and coaches arrived at the Plaza de Armas, where the town hall is located and which was full for almost two hours, during which a reception was held presided over by the acting mayor, Ángel Mato, at the end of which the footballers have intervened before the public from the balcony of the consistory.
The president of Racing de Ferrol, José María Criado, stated during the reception that the squad “has hooked the city” and that in “any house in Ferrol there is a racinguista”, as well as that society has been “lucky enough to that a serious and responsible investor group opted for the project” of the green club.
Thus, he alluded to the Elite Group, led by businessman Ignacio Rivera, executive president of the Hijos de Rivera Corporation, owner of the Estrella Galicia brewery.
The leader added that the team from Ferrol “wants to reach the First Division”, a category in which it has never played in its more than one hundred years of history, and has recognized that “it is not easy, but I am convinced that it is easier to go up from Second to First than from First Federation to Second”.
The captain of the squad, Joselu, has remembered the late president Isidro Silveira Cameselle for “everything he did for Racing” and his son, Isidro Silveira Rey, also a leader of the club and also deceased, and has valued that his family left the entity in “the best possible hands, it is good that it is in the hands in which it is”.
Likewise, he has applauded the work of the sports director, Carlos Mouriz, of whom he has said that he is “a key piece in this”, and has vindicated the “humility, the greatness of this team”.
The footballer from Palmeira has maintained that what Racing de Ferrol has achieved “is incredible, we were looking forward to this moment”, and has urged “to shoot with humility and be united, it is a triumph for all of Ferrol; this club will continue to carry this shield around Spain with great pride”.
The acting mayor of Ferrol, Ángel Mato, has estimated that the “city has always been very mistreated” despite the fact that “it has everything” and has outlined that seeing how the “streets are filled with people, you cannot imagine the illusion that ago, you are a reference; I love seeing A Malata full of children enjoying with you”.
