Sports writing (EFE).- The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) has been proclaimed final winner of the 106th edition of the Giro d’Italia after finishing the twenty-first and last stage, starting and finishing in Rome, 126 km long , in which the British Mark Cavendish (Astana) won the sprint.
Cavendish took the enormous memory in his last season as a professional from the last stage in the Roman capital, with a time of 2:48:26, at an average of 44,600 km/h.
The pink jersey and the Senza Fine trophy remain in the hands of Primoz Roglic (Trbovlje, 33 years old), who adds his fourth great one, since his record includes three Tours of Spain. He will be accompanied on the podium by the British Geraint Thomas (Ineos) and the Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates).
A tour to remember
The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma), pink jersey of the Giro d’Italia, hardly believes his fourth victory in a big one, but he assured that both in the time trial on Saturday at Monte Lussari and in the arrival in Rome he had “enjoyed top of the stage and the environment”.
“I still can’t take it in, huh? I’m enjoying the moment and trying to enjoy all the emotions, everything that happened yesterday. In the end, it’s always nice to win, especially in this spectacular city and surrounded by my people, these incredible buildings, this is super beautiful. I really enjoyed it again”, said the winner of the Giro
A triumph with a special flavor for a rider who had not climbed to the top of the podium in a big one since the Vuelta a España 2021. In the Tour, the falls disrupted his plans, but the Slovenian always resurfaces and seeks victory.
“Yes, this Giro has been a good reward. Every victory is special and I am grateful to be able to win this Giro, which will remain in my memories for the rest of my life”, he assured.
