Seville, (EFE).- Some two thousand protesters called by the platform ‘Salvemos Doñana’ have marched this Sunday from Seville’s Alameda de Hércules to the Parliament of Andalusia to demand that the regional government rectify the rule that regulates irrigation in the northern crown of the park and processed by the Andalusian Parliament.
At the end of the march, the former Andalusian ombudsman José Chamizo and the singer-songwriter Kiko Veneno read a manifesto before the regional legislature headquarters in which they highlighted that the Doñana National Park “is a symbol of the collective identity of Andalusia”. and the institutions have the “obligation to preserve it as other patrimonies of humanity”.
“It is urgent that this bill be withdrawn because it deceives farmers. We intend to be the voice that has been usurped from the citizenry, social mobilization is needed, ”claims the letter. That announces that “soon there will be mobilizations in Huelva and other provinces” to “defend our natural jewel, for the present and the future.”
The demonstration has been developed under the motto “Doñana is not for sale, Doñana defends herself”. And it has had a festive atmosphere, with a ‘batucada’ at the head and the participation. In addition to the convening platform, other groups such as Greenpeace or the Andalusian Student Union.
No room for speculation
The assistants carried numerous banners in which direct allusions to the Huelva natural park could be read. Like “Salvemos Doñana”, “Life in Doñana is extinguished” and “Doñana is not touched”. Along with other more general proclamations such as “Environmental attack”, “Save the planet”, “There is no nature without culture” or “Social distribution of water”.
Juan Romero, spokesman for Ecologistas en Acción, one of the organizations that make up the ‘Salvemos Doñana’ platform together with WWF, declared at the beginning of the march that “in Doñana there is no room for speculation.” And that is why he considers that “this bill goes against what Doñana needs.”
Romero demanded the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, to withdraw the proposed law. Because it is necessary to “eliminate illegal wells” from the surroundings of Doñana. To “bet on family farms”. And she has remarked that in Doñana “investment funds cannot have a place”.
“We are not going to stop until the bill is stopped. This demonstration is not an end point. We are not going to allow them to bury Doñana. Quite the contrary, that they recover it”, concluded the activist.
Eliminate illegal irrigation in Doñana
Felipe Fuentelsaz, belonging to WWF, has requested to “urgently eliminate” illegal irrigation in Doñana. What he has described as “madness and aberration that must be stopped.” And he has verified that the Government of the Junta has been left “alone” in its defense of the irrigation regulation. Because “you don’t play with Doñana”.
Among the politicians present at the demonstration, the leader of Adelante Andalucía, Teresa Rodríguez, has described it as “a mobilization for the future” because the draft of the Junta de Andalucía law “puts the future of the next generations of Huelva at risk and of Andalusians”.
For his part, the IU coordinator, Toni Valero, has maintained that the norm promoted by the PP and Vox “is not going to be the end” of Doñana, but it could be “the beginning of the end” of Moreno.
From Salobreña (Granada), the general secretary of the PSOE-A, Juan Espadas, has expressed his support for the mobilization against the proposed law and has insisted that said text must be withdrawn. EFE
